Video Editing Software

Hello,
Since we have a camera and took a video that was inputted into our training module, other departments have asked us to assist with videos. We have Camtasia, but I find the output quality of the mp4 is not great. What software do you recommend where there is good output quality, lets you split the audio and video like Camtasia, and also allows you to put in some effects?
Thank you,
Angela

Adobe Premiere
For most simple jobs we prefer Sony's Move Studio. It uses the same underlying engine as the highly regarded pro-level Sony Vegas NLE, and should you wish, will accept the same plug-ins.
Movie Studio is often bundled with SoundForge and other add-ins and used to go for less than $150 all in. Great bang for the buck. Easier interface than many NLEs, nice professional looking results (it is Vegas under the hood so no surprise), and most of the effects it comes with are just fine. But again because it's the Vegas engine, you have lots after market effect plug-ins to choose from as your editing skills (and amibitions!) grow.

@Liz,
No, Sony Movie Studio (or Vegas) does not create screen captures. It's a true non-linear editor that you import various media clips into for editing/processing.
I use iMovie for Mac/ It is free + functionality is really great.
