VR in corporate setting

Oct 09, 2017

This may be a little off the topic of ELing but it all crosses over.  Iv been tasked with exploring options to use VR within a classroom setting that may also be linked with ELing.  Wondering if anyone has used VR within a corporate setting.  Would love to pick brains about this.

Hi Paul - here are some general background notes that we have learned about VR and elearning. Most are just points of info to better prepare you.

1. be specific in your definition and use of VR. Does your company think that 360 video, Unity gaming, Vuforia, etc is VR?  if not, what do you envision VR to be?

2. do you want headgear VR or no headgear VR? Do you want the VR portion of your VR to be embedded within a product like SL or will the VR be a standalone aqdjunct to your classroom/online training?

3. VR and Unity training does not work within SL and Articulate will probably not go down that path. We have done Unity but it does not play well as a web object or across all browsers. You need to know your browser of choice and work backwards, e.g., what will play within SL (example) and within your company's browser and whether or not it needs to be mobile. Be very specific on all of your audience and technical requirements.

4.do you need VR or will a 3D/Maya/3D Studio Max product be just as good? (no head gear needed, works very well within SL, across classroom, online and mobile, etc.). Look at the James Ruffell demo he did for the Forum sometime last year. That was a Maya or Maya like approach within a slider interactions within SL.

5. again know your audience upfront. Will everyone like headgear or will your VR world be without headgear? What will you do if you spend a lot of time/money on implementing VR with headgear and 30-40& of your learners don't like the feel?

I know that I raised questions more than anything but this post represents most of what we have learned within this world. Remember to also look at the most recent eGuild Spring Conference on VR for presentations and some solutions. Good luck.
