web page tutorials

Nov 20, 2019

My department wants a hands-on tutorial on a web content process that is not a "screen capture. "    I found one called Sidecar Learning by https://www.sidecarlearning.com/   However, I have Articulate, and of course want to use Articulate.    Sidecar has limitations but wondered if Articulate could somehow be utilized in this same fashion??

Thank you for any insight, hints or that Articulate already has this capability and I missed this function. ;)

From what I understand, Sidecar is a platform that lets you create a tutorial for web content.  The tutorial guides the user from the side of the screen, in real-time, while using/searching specific web content.

For instance, we want to guide someone through the process of looking for research material for their engineering thesis.  The guide would give them step by step support as they are searching.  This way it is a one-time learn and search process they can duplicate anytime they need to search for materials in our library online content.

Our analytics are showing that students are not completing screen capture video or static tutorials.   We are trying to find other alternatives that will give them the tools to have more successful search results and confidence in using our Library resources.

I wish I could program, LOL.

This sounds similar to a company I took a look at called WalkMe. If so, then they're embedding hooks in the actual HTML pages to give pointers as people use them. Articulate products can't do this. The closest you could come is to create a simulation of using the web page. The simulation would have the user clicking on the web page but could only manipulate things that you have put in the simulation. I find simulations much more engaging then watching a video of someone else doing things.

You would need to decide if simulations would give users enough training or they really need an environment where the information is embedded in the web page.
