Weekly rise lessons

Dec 18, 2018

Hello there,

I am preparing to use Rise in a college course using it with Blackboard - our LMS. I have weekly topics that I'd like to remain separate and have a lesson and quiz for each week within a course. What is the best way to separate out the lessons for each week? I don't want students moving ahead with the lesson/quiz until that week is here.

Perhaps each week should have it's own "course" and associated lesson/quiz? or can I assign a lesson/quiz individually - so one per week but still remain within one course?

I'd like it to go like this....I think:

Week 1 - topic - introduction to.... Lesson + Quiz (or combined)

Week 2 - topic - personality in online behaviour.....Lesson + Quiz (or combined).

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Melanie

Hi Joanne - So to clarify, each week I would create a different Rise "course" which would include a "lesson". This is the only way to open accessibility to a separate lesson each week. Each week is it's own Rise Course. Correct?

I cannot open accessibility of separate lessons within a course at separate times.

One more question:  If I have 3 classes of the same course, can I create one course/lesson load to different classes within our LMS? One lesson but delivered/loaded to each class. Or do I duplicate and then load to the LMS?

Thanks!

Hi Melanie,

I won't say it's the only way to open accessibility to a separate lesson each week. But I think it would be a better way to control the accessibitly from LMS. Yes, this way you need to create different individul Rise course for each week.

You do be able to open accessibility of separte lessons within a course at separte times by setting different codes for different weeks' lessons. But you will need to send paricipaints the code for the week lesson every week. Here is how it could be done:

  1. Use a blank type quiz and turn on the setting of "require passing score to continue". So users will be able to continue the lesson only when passing the quiz. That is only when they type the correct code.
  2. Send paricipaints the code when you like them to be able to access.

Here is a mock up sample.

As to your new question, no matter how many classes there will be, you only need to create one course. If you need different reports from different classes, just tell LMS they should be able to cover that for you.

Hi there!

Thank you for your help here.

I think I will create a new course for each week for my first semester using it. That way if there are issues, it's isolated to one course.

Once I get more familiar with how this works with the LMS I might switch to one big course with separate lessons and password/quiz entries for each lesson. So thanks for that information.

Once the course is created I can then load that same one into the LMS, in different classes, which will have their own reports now associated to their own students.

Thanks!!

Melanie
