I'm in the process of making multiple system simulations and like to highlight certain area's of said software. At the moment I am a bit torn between using a colored hotspot with transparency or using a rectangle shape with no filling and a colored border.
Hi Justus. I'm with Kim in thinking that you might want to try doing this in a few different ways. You could also share these ideas with your project stakeholders and learners to see which ones are easier for them to spot.

I've used both of those before in different projects, I've also desaturated the part i dont want highlighting which can be very effective.
For me it all depends on the system, how busy it is, the colours and what would work best.
Do a couple of slides of the same content and highlight it in different ways then see what you feel.
