When will the Mobile Player be modernized for current 16:9 devices?

Sep 08, 2016

Hi there - I am using the Articulate Mobile Player with my courses because we have a need for easily saving the files for offline viewing. And it works great for that. The cumbersome aspect to the mobile player is the fact that it's forced into 4:3 aspect ratio. I have a lot of videos included in my courses, and they are recorded in the standard 16:9 ratio. I lose a lot of real estate in videos when viewed on a 16:9 device, which at this point encompasses the vast majority of smartphones. In fact, it seems that iPads and the newer galaxy tabs are about the only devices still in 4:3 aspect ratio, and I don't think that stops most people from viewing movies/video in a widescreen mode, accepting the black bars at the top and bottom. The point is - wouldn't it be better to design the app with a 16:9 ratio? Or perhaps the option for 16:9, 4:3, or both? Just wanted to see if there were any plans for this in the future.  Thank you

Hi there, Jeffrey!  We totally hear you on this point.  I wish I could say when, but we are working toward making it easier for course developers to create one course version to be optimally viewed on all devices.  Take a look at our article (which includes a link to our white paper) on delivering e-learning in a mobile world.

TL;DR :  take a look at the white paper's pages 8, 9 and 10.  ;)
