Would appreciate ideas for an elearning module

Jan 28, 2013

Hi,

I work in a tax collector's office in FL and am responsible for creating elearning training on how to process various transactions for Motor Vehicles, Mobile Homes, and Vessels. I'm creating them for an audience already knowledgeable in basic title and registration transactions. These modules show them how to do more involved transactions, using what they already know about titles and registrations.

But I know that what I'm doing is boring. I have been able to use scenarios in some of my e-learning, but I'm hitting a creativity wall in this one. Any ideas on how to get this information across in a different way would be appreciated. I think maybe I started out to quickly with the video of a vehicle being repossessed, and maybe should have developed a story of an individual having their vehicle repossessed, but the thing is, that really doesn't have a lot to do with what the clerks do when processing.

Here is a link to an example of my latest creation. I've only used a few slides to give you an idea of what I'm doing. Any thoughts are welcome.

Personally I would create a interactive story where the learner is in the "driver seat". Create a three part story. One for a veichle, one for mobile homes and one for a vessel. Let them choose which to start with.

Then create a interactive story where the learner must choose the correct paperwork and make their own descicions. Give them alot of good feedback to why their choice was correct/wrong. Maybe create a virtual teacher who give them advice when they do something wrong.

My big point is not to "show" them how to do it, but "let them do it" themselves

Thank you, Morten. I know it needs more human interest and interactivity, but I really couldn't see a way to approach it. The problem with separating the 3 areas is that there are only a couple of things that are different about mobile homes and vessels, otherwise they're processed exactly the same. I suppose I could have them choose correct paperwork according to titled in FL, titled outside of FL, FL lienholder, out of state lienholder, etc. That just seems incredibly boring to me as well. Maybe I can make a game out of it and have them rack up points! Now is when I wish I were Jeannette. Figuring out formulas to make that work isn't one of my strong suits.

Okay, well at least that's given me a jumping off point that I didn't have before. Thanks, again!
