Hi there...
Would anyone happen to know if you could use You Tube Videos or other free Videos in your elearning course that does not have copyright issues? Or do we always need to reach out for permission for use. I would think we would. The content library in 360 is great for videos by the way..but what I am looking for is not in there so I am looking for additional resources.
Thanks!

I would always recommend reaching out for permission to use. The other big risk you run with incorporating videos uploaded by other creators is that you can't guarantee the longevity...the could disappear at anytime, which will ultimately impact your course quality.
Hi Dana. Copyright is a complex topic. Since different content contributors have different requirements, I would suggest taking a look at YouTube's Copyright page to understand the requirements more fully. Also, this previous discussions thread has some advice that may be of help to you.
Hi Trina,
Thank you for your help. I feel the same way that it is a complex topic. I have always asked permission so I just wanted to see what other's have done as well. I did watch the You Tube Copyright info and I think the message is pointing in asking for permission.
Thank you again ~
Thank you Ashley. Good points that you made and I have shared that with my team.

IANAL, but there appears to be some legal precedent for assuming that embedding YouTube videos is OK as long as the authors have allowed embedding. That only applies to using YouTube's provided embed codes, not downloading files or circumventing YouTube's protection or ads. It's still safer to ask permission though, and probably best, especially for corporate purposes. As you and Trina acknowledged, copyright is complex and ambiguous.
