Can Storyline link to outside courses?

May 06, 2013

I have four related courses (one created in Articulate Presenter, 3 in Storyline) that I would like to create a launch portal for using a single slide in another Storyline course. Does anyone know if it's possible to create a link to an outside course, and then link back from there to the original slide? Thanks, Julie Alexander

Should be possible (unless you are doing this in an LMS and want everything to track).

One option.  Have your four courses already on a web server.  And you know the URLs.

Use the Jump to URL/File trigger (on a button or on a text link) and then be sure to click the globe icon on the trigger . . .

.  .  . and make sure the link opens up in a new browser window.

And then your Course Menu will stay open.

You probably could also do this with four web objects in your course (each of your separate courses with story.html in each renamed to index.html and the web objects opening up in their own browser windows) and just have one massive upload to do to your web server.

Hi Khanh,

This discussion is a bit older, so I don't know if Gerry is still subscribed here, even though we see him around the forums often.

As he mentioned linking between the SCORM or LMS packages could cause issues with tracking or resuming content.

Could you  share a bit more about what you're looking to accomplish? That way we can help with ideas that may fit your set up!

Hi Ashley,

Sorry for late responding,

I'm looking for a solution for this case:

I have a course that student required to select a branch of study, based on the selection, when he click Next, the course open another content. I have 5 contents to select.

I though about using scenes but It gonna make my Scorm package quite big and I'm finding the way to link between SCORM packages to reduce the size

Thanks !!

Ah, thanks for the explanation Khanh. If you had the links to your published courses you could insert those into an existing course and publish that one. Again, the issue will come down to tracking and reporting on the users score and completion. Have you asked your LMS team if they have a way to link individual courses?
