Creating a variable for clicks on a hotspot

Feb 25, 2014

Hi,

I'm wondering if something is possible - I don't have a lot of experience with variables yet... Basically, I'm creating a course that the learner would click on certain areas of the screen to progress. I'd like to make it so that the course records the final click for each of the two scenarios, so that in and LMS system making those two clicks would be a passing grade to mark completed... does that make sense? Please let me know if you have any questions. Would it be a results slide that has the two variables ? Any help would be greatly appreciate!

Hi Stephanie,

I have a few more questions about your set up -

Are all these clicks happening on one screen, but you only want to capture the last two?

Will the users be able to use any of the clicks as their last two - or are there set ones that should be clicked last?

I'm having a hard time envisioning your set up, and what to offer - but I know it will likely involve adjusting a variable based on the state of your objects (where the user clicks) changing. If they need to click in a particular order, you could also track each click and adjust a number variable...so that say they click on your "last two clicks", but missed 3 out of the other 7 possible clicks the question could be marked as incorrect based on that alone.

I'm more of a visual person.  If you have a sample or a mock up version that you can share with us, that may be easier to help determine how to set this up.

Stephanie,

It sounds like you want someone to "pass" the course as long as they complete the 2 scenarios. Is that correct? If so, a possible solution would be to set Tracking to "Track using number of slides viewed" when you publish the course. If some branching in the scenarios means no one will actually view all the slides, you can set the "Minimum number of slides viewed to complete" to a lower-than-total number. For example, let's say the entire course contains 25 slides, but someone could get through both scenarios by visiting just 15 of those. In that case, you would set 15 (of 25) as the number to track.

Good luck!

Hi Ashley,

I've attached the case study scene if you could take a look? Yesterday I was looking through the tutorials on hotspots and converted the the two slides that I want clicking the hotspot to be "correct" to freeform hotspot - I'm not sure if I did it right. The two slides are 1.9 and 1.28.

I also made a results slide, but not sure if that is correct either - It says passing score is 80%, and I'm not sure how to change that; I'd like the passing score to be 100% meaning the learner has to click both hotspots to get credit for the course. Let me know what you think! thanks so much!

Thanks for you idea as well, Judy! I may go that route if I can't figure out hotspots!

Thanks,

Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

First off, nice job setting this up with hotspot questions and I really like how you've set up your course.

Everything looks right to me in terms of how it's all set up, but the only part that is missing is to "jump to the results slide" and then you can adjust the results slide passing score to 100% by clicking on "Edit Results slide" and you'll see the passing percent at the bottom of that window:
