Entry-level Opportunities?

Hello everyone,

I'm brand new here so if this post is inappropriate, I apologize in advance. Please let me know and I'm more than happy to remove it or have it removed. No problem.

I've been in HR and IT corporate training on and off for 15+ years as a stand-up trainer/facilitator/instructional designer but I'm brand new to developing e-learning and using Articulate. I've mainly used Word and PowerPoint (which I'm a whiz at) to design course materials in the past (both technical and soft skills). I also have experience in sales and marketing.

I'm currently looking for at least one of two types of opportunities:

1. Training Coordinator/Specialist position with a company in the Dallas, TX area that doesn't require an e-learning portfolio but is looking for someone with the aspiration to develop e-learning.

2. An opportunity to do some entry-level e-learning development for an established ID freelancer as a way to build my e-learning portfolio. I'm currently available to work up to 40 hours a week and can stay that way to see a project all the way through if needed.

I do have samples of my writing and ID work that I can send if anyone is interested. Please feel free to reach out to me with a private message if so.

I know that I could probably just build a "demo" portfolio but since I'm looking for work anyway, I thought I'd see if any opportunities existed to get paid while I build it.

Thanks in advance for your help everyone! Any thoughts, feedback, suggestions are very much appreciated.

Hi Kim! First of all, welcome to the community!

One great way to get some practice and build some content for your portfolio is by participating in David Anderson's Weekly E-learning Challenge. You can jump in this week or go back and do any of the previous ones. Another cool thing is that if you're already a whiz at PowerPoint you'll probably do really well with elearning too.

One other thing you might want to check out is our weekly jobs roundup which I post every Friday in the community blogs.

Hope that helps!

Hi Mike, thanks so much for the warm welcome and the resources. I'm really enjoying my time here so far and learning a lot. I found the challenges after I posted and intend to get started on some of those soon.

I will definitely keep checking the job board each week. I'm sure something right up my ally will pop up eventually.

Warmest regards,
