AI Text-to-Speech Export Quality

I've noticed that the export (mp3) quality is inconsistent depending on how it is exported.

When I export via the timeline (right-click > Export audio), it seems that the quality isn't great or what I hear when previewing within SL.

I've had better success when I go into the Media Library and then export the mp3 from there.

Today, I ran into a quality issue when I exported an AI TTS mp3 file via the Media Library. I ended up publishing the project and then grabbing the mp3 from the exported folder.

My questions, is has others experienced the same quality issue, and second, is there a best practice for exporting these audio files and why the quality is different depending on the method of exporting?

I've attached samples of the good and bad quality exports.

Thanks!

  • And to add to my original post, I have changed the default audio setting on each audio element from automatic to uncompressed. This did not affect the quality when exporting the audio from SL.

      Hi LeeMillardButlr

Sorry to hear you've run into this setback when exporting audio from Storyline!

I can confirm we have this behavior logged as a bug in Storyline 360. This bug causes:

      • AI Text-to-Speech audio exported as a single file is not clear and sounds muffled.

However, this issue cannot be observed when exporting multiple audio files at once. As a workaround, we suggest selecting multiple audio files, including the AI TTS files, and exporting them to obtain the audio file with better sound quality.

I've linked this discussion to the bug report, so we can notify you as soon as a fix is in place.

Thank you for your patience. I'm sorry if this has been slowing you down!

        Hi StevenBenassi !

Thanks for your response. Your description makes complete sense now. When I exported multiple audio files at once from the Media Library I had no issue, but the the other day when I exported just one, that's when the quality was low. So, your description of the bug aligns with my experience. I'm glad to know the workaround and appreciate the heads up once the bug is squashed. Thanks!
