Audio autostart
I need to have the audio automatically start on each lesson. How can I do this?
- MaryBethMaid674Community Member
We like to use intro/exit music in our courses... so it would be a great feature to have an option in the title page or as an option for other blocks. Would like to see the option of being able to 'attach' an audio file to the same block as an image, for example.

Has there been any movement on this concept of audio auto-start?
Thanks
Hi Janet,
Since Adam's initial response, we haven't added in autoplay of media. Some browsers, such as Chrome and Safari, have also started to block autoplay of media for the same reasons as noted below. Think of the sites you visit where an ad starts playing immediately, and you often can't find where it is on the page to stop it!

I understand what you mean about intrusiveness, it has happened to me during general browsing! But given the controlled environment of a training session we could inform trainees beforehand that there is audio. Just wanted to keep the idea out there:) Or at least an auto start option within the audio section so there is a choice.
Thank you!
Janet

You can auto-play of a Storyline Block - so that's a pretty useful workaround. Just put it at the top of your lesson, and never out more than one in a lesson!

How do you do this?
Hi Kateline,
You can add a Storyline block to Rise as shown here.
I'm not clear the specifics of what Matt set up, so I'll leave that to him! If you'll be using your Rise course on a mobile device, keep in mind that you'll see the Storyline block with a play button as it's designed to showcase the Storyline course in it's own player.

Matt's right about the auto-play behavior of Storyline blocks, and it's a helpful workaround. But as Ashley rightly pointed out, it works only on desktops/laptops.
The way to do this is pretty simple. Create a slide in Storyline and add any text/picture/icon or animation with audio (NOT a video file). Remove menu elements by going to Player and then just publish it to Articulate Review. Add the Storyline block to your Rise course by following the instructions Ashley shared. And it's done!
I've created a sample Rise course here as a demo. Let me know if you have any questions about it.
Hope this helps!

Darn I could not open this for some reason; I wanted to see your example!

Sorry to hear that Janet. I just checked the link and it's working. Not sure what the issue could be. Maybe you could try opening it on a different machine or in a different browser?

Hi Mohammed, how did you get the animation to work automatically in your example? I have it all set up in Storyline but when I add the block to Rise, it's still making me click a start button. (like video). I'm on a desktop. Thanks for the help.
Thanks, Mohammed. Always nice to see other examples of how to set a course up.

Hi Janet,
It looks like Mohammed may have added in a Storyline block there. The image pops up with animation to it, and I also heard audio. I'm not 100% confident on that, but I wanted to share that it did work for me.
Also, we'll keep you posted if anything changes regarding autoplay of media!

Thanks Ashley:) I transferred one of our existing training courses to Rise and presented it to staff yesterday...they loved it but audio auto-start was their one suggestion for improvement!
So glad to hear that they loved it! We'll keep you posted if we add autoplay of audio (or other media). It's something we've shied away from since it can be a different experience depending on the device, and a few browsers like Chrome and Safari have started to prevent it as a default.
Hi there, D!
Does the first slide of your Storyline Block contain audio or video? If so, that would cause the play button to appear.
Browsers like Chrome and Safari have started to block the autoplay of media. This article explains why you're seeing a play button in those browsers.
Let me know if that answers your question!

Thank you Alyssa, that was the issue. I had a audio snippet.
