Can I change a thumbnail on a video?
Right now it is showing a black screen, is there a way to add a thumbnail image from my video as the cover instead of a black screen?

This is not a solution in every situation, and it's not ideal, but i usually upload videos to Youtube and set them as Unlisted instead of importing them directly into my course.
When embedded they show the custom thumbnail from Youtube.
An added bonus is that the course files will be much smaller, and Youtube videos are quick to launch. The downsides are of course that Youtube does everything it can to get people to watch the next video, and the next and so on.

I also like this option! Hosting them externally has a lot of plus sides like the course file size as you mention. There are a lot of players out there with very nice controls built in that I wouldn't expect Articulate to have to recreate. The main draw backs are the suggested videos or getting your course to be "locked down" until the video has completed. There are solutions out there but not as easy as the built in video block.

Hi John! We started using Mighty Plugin recently and we found out that when there's a Continue Button locked (required to watch and when the video is done, it should unlock) the Continue button is not being unlocked even after completing the video above it. Can you help ASAP?

Wanted to share that while this isn't built into Rise, you can now easily drop in a custom thumbnail/poster image using the Mighty Chrome extension which sits on top of Rise and adds a lot of little features like this! Here is a quick video that shows you how it works. So simple 🙌

You forgot to mention there is a cost associated with the Mighty Chrome Extension and as soon as you stop paying for it all your customizations disappear.

I hear you, there is a little cost as we are maintaining with Articulate changes and it does go into read-only mode without the subscription. Wasn't meaning to come across Salesy there! I know most are hoping that Articulate puts this on their road map (me too!) Just wanted to provide an option in the meantime for those interested.
There is a manual workaround post-publish... you can do so by replacing the generated thumbnail after you publish your course. There is just a jpg file in the assets folder that you need to replace. There is a video here that goes over that.
Again, I know this thread is looking for a built in solution, just wanted to provide some alternatives!

It is now the tail end of 2024 and this incredibly basic, critical option is still nowhere to be found.

Thumbnail option needs to be added as basic function please.

Has anyone tried this solution? It works for me. Just add your png to the assets folder and name it same as the .mp4. Then zip and add to LMS etc

Can we please have this? Its a really simple thing

Is there any update on uploading custom thumbnails?

Hi Support! Are there any updates available for this feature in Rise? Thanks!

5 years...that's how long we've been waiting to get what seems to be a pretty standard feature in most video products. Maybe you could get your AI engine to create the video thumbnail feature for us????

Oh, come on Articulate, this is ridiculous! You will implement AI, but will not implement thumbnail image!? Videos that has fade-in will appear black until user plays the video. These look awful, really. Adding an image to the frist frame of the video is not a joke, just try to google it how complicate it is without re-encoding and loosing quality. Yes, I know there is ffmpeg, but how many people will successfully read and set all necessary video parameters?
