Convert Storyline content to PDF?

Hi there!

My client wants to create an area on their LMS where anyone can access "basic content" stripped of exam material to encourage employees to learn beyond their current positions and/or qualifications.

The client wants this material in basic PDF format, with NO animations or audio. 

Is there a way to convert Storyline content (or the HTML output in any form) to PDF?  At the moment all I can see to do is take a screen print of each slide, then drop those into PowerPoint, then save the PowerPoint as a PDF file.

Please help - any suggestion less awkward than the above one would be appreciated.

    Are there any plans to convert course to pdf that also imports the audio and animations? This feature was available when I used Adobe Presenter.

    We don't currently have plans to add a feature to convert a course to PDF that also imports the audio and animations. Would this be similar to exporting to Word and then exporting as a PDF? Or do you have something different in mind?

    I was just wondering if there was a way of doing this where I can hide certain features of the course? For example, my storyline file has a hotspot in it and I was looking to hide that for the end user in a printable version of the course?

    As you mentioned, the slides will display as an image, so the content will not be editable in this format.

    I see that you're using Articulate 360, so if you're looking for a way to share a document for review/feedback/approval, I'd recommend using Review 360. This platform allows your reviewers to comment as they review your interactive project.

  • Hi, I am trying to do this through publishing as Word and it is coming through a folder with multiple various files included, .html etc. Similar when publishing to LMS. 
    There's no Word document I can find to convert to .pdf.

      The likely reason for this is that Storyline doesn't create a new folder for Word-formatted output. If you first published as SCORM or HTML, then published as a Word document, the document version would be placed in with all the other output files. What I do is save the Word version to it's own  subfolder of the project's deliverable folder. For example, for me:

      The project is stored at
      D:/Articulate/SL/Projects/ClientName/ProjectName

      The SCORM output is stored at
      D:/Articulate/SL/Projects/ClientName/ProjectName/Output/SCORM

      The HTML5 output is stored at
      D:/Articulate/SL/Projects/ClientName/ProjectName/Output/HTML5

      The Word output is stored at
      D:/Articulate/SL/Projects/ClientName/ProjectName/Output/Word

      Keep in mind that Storyline outputs Word document using an older (DOC) version of Word. You can't access/manipulate the contents using ZIP like you can with a DOCX file.

    A folder with multiple files is usually created when publishing to Web or LMS formats, but not when publishing to Word. Can you share a screen recording of what you're experiencing when attempting to publish to Word, so we can investigate what's happening?

    I know this is an older one, but wanted to poke around to see if there are any plans to add this feature.  We are asked to save courses in PDF form for our audit team.  Unfortunately, we don't use Office products, and when I attempt to publish to Word and upload that file to Google Drive, Storyline doesn't publish anything at all.  It's weird, and it's a separate problem... but ultimately, it would be great if we had either 1) Google Drive compatibility with our publishing options or 2) a PDF export option that behaves the same way as the Word export is intended to - just images, notes, etc., no interactivity.

    I'm trying the HTML to PDF conversion trick now, but a lot of the converter sites are blocked for our company for security reasons (understandably, don't want to upload proprietary info to random sites).  If anyone has a new trick, let me know!

    Good question; I'd be happy to share some insights into it. There are no plans to add a publish to PDF feature in Storyline, but I recommend using these steps instead:

    1. Publish your Storyline project to Word to your local hard drive.
    2. Download an installer online for a Word to PDF converter. These products won't require you to upload the Word document to the cloud since you can use the one saved on your hard drive. This satisfies the security requirements of your organization.
    3. Convert the published Word document to PDF using the converter. I understand that you don't use Microsoft Office products, and that's fine because you won't need to open the document in Microsoft Word when converting it to PDF.

      Unfortunately, I'm not authorized to download external software to my company computer.  But beyond that, the problem I'm having is that Publishing to Word produces no files. Storyline goes through the motions, and I get the pop up confirming it's completed, and then can't open, view, or even find the files anywhere in my system after closing Storyline.  Like I mentioned, that's an issue for a different thread.  But I appreciate the suggestions anyway.

      Edit: after some digging, the problem may be that our organization doesn't use Microsoft Office.  Typically, I can upload Office files to Google Drive and use their built-in features to view.  But it looks like Storyline has to have Word installed for the Publish to Word feature to work.  That's a bummer.
