Copy-pasting a group causes item order to change
Hi,
I'm am having an issue where copy-pasting a group is causing the layer-order of objects within that group to change - i.e. an object at the bottom comes to the top.
I am able to replicate this is an otherwise empty file.
- Create three distinct objects.
- Arrange them in a group.
- Copy-paste the group.
- Result: layer order in new group is different to original group.
I feel this is unintentional behaviour. Would be great if somebody else can confirm.
Many thanks in advance.

If you paste again it fixes it, not ideal but simpler than reordering
Hi DeveloperIgniti,
Great to see that Phil has been helping you! Happy to share some additional insight here.
In Storyline, Ctrl+V (Standard Paste) can sometimes reinsert objects in a way that doesn't fully preserve the group's original Timeline order. Alternatively, Ctrl+Alt+V (Paste Special) applies a more controlled paste workflow and helps authors preserve or discard an object's structure when pasting.
Moving forward, I suggest using Ctrl+Alt+V instead of Ctrl + V when you require the Timeline order to remain consistent. Give it a shot and let me know how it goes!

it isn't the timeline order. The z-order inside the group is changing. This only happens first time you paste.
Thank you for clarifying PhilMayor!
DeveloperIgniti, since this behavior only occurs on the initial paste and affects the internal stacking order of grouped objects, I'd like our support engineers to take a closer look at the issue. I've opened a support case on your behalf so they can work with you directly.
They should be following up with you via email, soon. We can continue the conversation through your case!

It also occurs when duplicating (Ctrl + D) and Special Pasting (Ctrl + Alt + V). And it's not just the first paste. I've found the first paste re-orders the object z-order, the second paste it doesn't affect, and then every paste after is affected.
It seems you need to paste, deselect the pasted copy, paste again. But if you copy again or move the paste object, it breaks.- AlistairCommunity Member
For me, it seems to be reversing the z-order (e.g, the bottom object is now on top, the second bottom is now second top, etc.)
