Hello Everyone!
I'm happy to share that we have released a new update for Storyline 360 (Build 3.89.32618.0).
In this update, we have implemented a fix for:
- If dropped outside a target, dragged items didn't return to their starting point when set to do so.
As a first step, I recommend updating Storyline 360 to the latest version. Here's how:

Hi Luciana! The drag and drop option "if dropped outside a target, dragged items didn't return to their starting point when set to do so" doesn't always work reliably. I added a simple counter to track how many items are in place, but it has stopped functioning. Could you please test this function if possible?
Hi, ZoltnGg-f37d7a6,
I'm happy to help!
I created a sample file and set the Drag & Drop option to Return item to start point if dropped outside any drop target. As you can see, the objects (stars) snap back to their starting position unless dropped in the rectangle. I tested this with Storyline versions 3.98.34222.0, as well as version 3.98.34263.0, which was released earlier this week.
Does this happen in Preview mode or when published? Did you set up your course the same way? If not, please describe how it's set up or share a copy of your file. We'll delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete!

Following so I can be notified when the fix is available. Thanks!
Hi Everyone!
I'm so sorry to hear you've run into this setback!
I can confirm we have this behavior logged as a bug in Storyline 360. This bug causes:
- Drag item set to return to start point when dropped outside a target does not return to its original position
I've linked this discussion to the bug report and will share updates as soon as a fix is in place. In the meantime, as a workaround, we suggest downgrading to a previous version of Storyline 360 where this bug cannot be observed.
Thank you all for your patience. I'm sorry if this has been slowing you down!

I had the same issue. Like Ron, I reinstalled 87.

I am still on version 3.88.32474.0. The drag & drop feature works as expected. I see the update is available. I guess it's better not to update it yet.

I thought I was losing my mind as I am having the same issue. The drag items will sometimes return if I click around a lot but isn't working like prior projects. For someone new to all this, how do I return to a previous version?

Thanks. I did figure it out on my own, but appreciate the follow-up!
