Elements on Slide Master layouts do not appear or are not editable on slides

Placeholder text elements are not editable.
Decorative elements (shapes) do not appear if I also have a placeholder picture element ( I want to be able to add a custom background)

What am i doing wrong?

  • Hi Randall!

    Happy to help!

Would you mind sharing a copy of the .story file you are working with and clarifying a bit more about what you are trying to achieve with placeholder text? You can attach the file here in the discussion or share it privately through a support case.

In the meantime, I wanted to share this article which goes into more detail on working with Slide Masters in Storyline 360.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

  • See the slide layouts with the image placeholders. If I add an image then the placeholder covers up any of the other elements 9page numbers, blue box, etc) even though the placeholder is stacked BEHIND these elements in the layout

  • I understand I can use the Set Background option for individual slides but that has limitations (I cant use any of the online assets, I have to use local image files).

      Hello Randall,

Thanks for sharing a copy of your project file. I tested it and confirmed that its being affected by a known issue where the placeholder image positioned as a background graphic in the slide masters layout moves to the front when an actual image is inserted on the slide. Our apologies for any inconvenience this bug may have caused. The identified workaround is to manually insert objects into the slide and avoid using placeholders.

I've added this ELH post to the bug report so we can notify you as soon as a fix is released. Let me know if we can help you with anything else!

Any news on this? It really makes use of a placeholder feature limited. In our case we want to have a background cover which has editable artwork to be replaced by the content creators, but it has other non-placeholder elements on top of it. As placeholder items have this fault, non-editable elements drop behind the cover image.

  • Hi Wojciech!

Thanks for reaching out. We don't have any updates to share at this time. I've gone ahead and added your voice to the report.

We'll be sure to update this thread in the future with any news!
