Feedback master seem to be a bit buggy, formatting not "sticking"
Starting with a new project, I added a simple multiple-choice question.
Here are the steps I took:
- Opened the Feedback Master editing screen.
- cut the background box from the master (I want different colored boxes for correct/incorrect)
- pasted it into each of the children layouts and moved it to the back.
- in the master, moved the question title text box and set to left align (successfully, the children reflected the change.
- in the master, moved the feedback text box and set to left align (all children layouts but the Correct layout reflected the change. After three attempts, the Correct layout did too - frustrating)
- moved the button in the master, all good.
- closed the Feedback Master template and previewed the correct/incorrect layouts. Mostly good, except the Correct layout's font size is a bit larger.
- Opened the Feedback Master editing screen, and selected each of the children layouts and sure enough, the Correct layout's font looks larger there too, although the toolbar says all children's placeholder text areas are the same font family and size.
- Instead of the dark gray font, I wanted black and in the Master layout I selected the text boxes and changed the font color. All the children layouts reflected the change, but not the Correct layout. I then changed the title placeholder to red and same deal.
This is where I saved the project and uploaded it here.

Still buggy, in the Feedback Master I have black text, but it shows as grey when previewing.
Also when editing button states, the text just disappear when trying to mark it making it impossible to have it change color on hover, etc.
Issues with editing the Feedback Master has been going on since I started using Storyline 7 years ago...A question: what is the easiest solution to use an edited Feedback-master in another story-file?
Hi BorgCube!
Sorry to hear you're having issue working with Feedback Master Slides in Storyline!
I can confirm the behavior you described around Button States is related to a bug we are currently tracking in Storyline. This bug causes:
- Editing States on the Feedback Master does not change States from the Feedback Layer.
I've included your voice in the bug report, so we can notify you as soon as a fix is in place. In the meantime, as a workaround we suggest modifying Button States for each individual Layer, at the Slide-level.
However, testing in the current version of Storyline 360, I'm unable to replicate the Feedback Master/text formatting issue you shared. In my project, font that was set to Bold, Italic, and Arial Black did inherit all of those changes upon previewing my course.
Do you mind sharing a copy of the .story file in which you are observing this issue? Feel free to upload that here in the discussion or privately in a support case.
Also, Storyline doesn't directly support exporting a Feedback Master to be used in separate projects. As a workaround, we suggest:
- Switch to Feedback Master View: Go to the View tab on the ribbon and click Feedback Master.
- Design Your Feedback Master: Customize the feedback master and its layouts as needed.
- Save Your Feedback Master: Once you've edited your feedback master, save your Storyline file. Or you can do a Save As, to save the file in a .storylinetemplate format.
- Import the Feedback Master into Another Story File: Open the new story file where you want to use the feedback master. Go to the Home tab, click Import, and select the Storyline file (or template) with the edited Feedback Master.
- Apply the Feedback Master: After importing, you can apply the Feedback Master to your Slides by selecting the feedback layers and choosing the appropriate layout from the Feedback Master drop-down list.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Steven, and thanks for the information.
I'm glad to hear Articulate is finally getting around to fixing the issues with customizing/editing Feedback Master.
I've already tried the workaround you provided, but it didn't work. I can try once more.
As of now, I have taken some screenshots and provied you a short screen-capture so you can see the issues. As you can see from the screenshots, I've removed the title from the master-slides, but it still shows up in preview, but now its located on the leftmost side of the feedback-slide (see video-file at the bottom of the post).
The button has been resized, but the normal-state still has the old size when preiviewing even though it's not so in States.
Also you can see the states-view is bugged on the "Correct"-submaster.
There's a lot of stuff going on here that has been an issue for years and years. I'm quite baffled that issues like this still is present in the software to be perfectly honest with you.

I am also having a similar issue. The formatting of the text is respected, however the positioning of the text is not. Here are screenshots of the master and how it shows on the actual slides:
Hi DavidWestra-98b,
Thanks for reaching out and sharing screenshots with us! I'm sorry to hear you've run into this unexpected behavior. I tested this on my end, and was unable to experience this positioning change with the text.
- Do you experience this text positioning change when using any other Feedback Master slides in your course or just when using this specific Feedback Master slide?
- Are you currently working and saving your project file locally?
- Are you experiencing this in any other .story projects you are working on?
Our latest version of Storyline 360 is Update 97. If you've installed the latest update and still experience this issue, I recommend repairing your Storyline installation.
Please let us know if you're still encountering this issue with the Feedback Master formatting not sticking after the repair. We'd be happy to take a closer look at your .story file in this thread or privately in a support case.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Hi Maren,
Sorry to hear you've run into this issue as well with the Feedback Master.
As Steven mentioned earlier in this discussion, if you are currently working locally, and a repair of your Storyline installation doesn't seem to resolve this issue, please share your .story file with us in this thread or privately in a support case. We'd be happy to take a closer look at your setup!

Unfortunately, I am experiencing this same issue!
Hi Kali!
Sorry to hear you've run into this setback!
Testing the behavior on my end, in the current version of Storyline 360, I was unable to reproduce the bug discussed previously in this thread. My feedback layers inherited the font and color I set within the Feedback Master. Everything was working as expected!
If you've confirmed that you are working locally, and a repair of your Storyline installation doesn't do the trick, do you mind sharing your .story file for testing on our end? Feel free to upload a copy here in the discussion or privately through a support case.
Hello Everyone!
I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 74, we’ve included important fixes and new features.
One of the bugs that was fixed was for when the Feedback layer did not inherit the font style and color changes in the feedback master.
To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let me know if you need additional help!

I am experiencing something similar; I updated the feedback master and selected that layout for the slide, and it looks the way I want it to in Storyline. But when I preview or publish, the formatting is all messed up, and since it looks right in Storyline, there is nothing for me to edit to correct this.

I seem to be running into the same issue as was reported above a couple years ago. I'm using the Feedback Master to make the text area larger. I've tried -just- changing the main master, which at first seemed like it changed the sub masters below, but after reading the above I went in and at least moved the feedback text box a few pixels and back to be sure.
This is what it looks like in feedback master view:You can see the feedback text extends to the edges of the background box. However upon taking the quiz, if I have put a lot of text in the Incorrect slide layer (via Form View), it doesn't conform to the larger feedback text box:
Am I missing something obvious? I'd hate to think that for every question I'm going to need to manually re-size the feedback text box if it's more than a few words.
Thanks!
