Font Missing

I updated older programs periodically. When I open them I get the message, "The fonts listed below are not installed on your computer HelviticaNeueLt Std Cn. I have searched the project and this font is not used. Why do I keep getting this message?

  • Thank you all, I actually did find the font used on one of the slides. The search program missed it even though I typed the font name exactly as it appeared in the missing font message, so I assumed it wasn't being used.

    Any problem solved. Thank you.

  • It only happens on one file that I can see. I have opened a couple more and it doesn't happen.

      Hi EricSchaffer-d1,

Thank you for sharing an update. It's interesting that it doesn't happen with any other projects you're working on or in a new course.

      Please keep us posted!

  • OK, I have the same problem except with Arial font, very popular and common. I know it is installed on my computer. I open the presentation, and I get the message that it is missing. I know it is on every slide all over the place. I did the find and replace with Times New Roman, not that I want that, but it was quick and easy. I saved the presentation and closed it. I reopen and I still get the message. I then go back and do another font change. This time from Times New Roman to Arial, yes it is on the list. I save and close. Reopen and still get the message.

Any ideas, not that the presentation doesn't publish correctly, it's just annoying!

      Hi, EricSchaffer-d1!

That's very strange. Thanks for including all the details about what you're experiencing. When you replaced the font with Times New Roman, and reopened the course, did the error message refer to Arial font or Times New Roman? If you create a brand new course, do you see the error message, or is the issue specific to one course? If it's happening across all files, you may want to try a Storyline repair.

I like Phil's idea of exporting a translation document, but I’d suggest exporting it as XLIFF instead. In the exported XML file, you should be able to find references to the font if it has been used anywhere in the project.

For example, in my case, I encountered the same error, which referenced the "Adobe Heiti" font. It turned out that the font had been used but was not installed on my computer. In the XML file, I could clearly see which text had this font applied.

  • It should show as red text and then you can substitute. The other option is to export a translation document and you can search for fonts in the word doc

I'd make a backup copy of the Storyline file and delete all slides except one in the duplicate project. Then, save the project, reopen it, and check if the same error appears.

If the error doesn't occur, it means the font was used somewhere in the original file, making it easier to track down. Be sure to check the Feedback Master, captions, object states, and other text elements where it might be applied.

Additionally, you can upload a simplified version of your project so others can troubleshoot or at least confirm whether the error appears on a different computer and Storyline version.

  • maybe on a master, you can sort by going to find and replace and choose fonts and replace it

Thanks Phil, yes I did do the search and the font wasn't found in the project.
