Solved

Force the menu to only show slides from selected scenes (not the whole project)

Hoping this awesome community of Heroes can solve this challenge.

I have an assessment-only SL project with 7 scenes; each scene has its own question bank.

All users complete scene 1. After that, the user chooses 1 branch (based on job role/title).

Currently, the menu is displaying all the scenes in the entire project. Is there a way to force the menu to only show slides from Scene 1 plus the scene the user has chosen?

Thanks!

I think it looks just fine. Please email me at nedim.ramic@gmail.com  so I can send you the .story file along with a few important details you should be aware of.

Ideally, only Scene 1 should be displayed in the menu. The other scenes can likely be hidden using JavaScript. Once a selection is made, we could dynamically reveal the selected scene in the menu, and the first scene if needed.

If you can provide more details about your structure or even better a mockup .story file, I may be able to assist further. This is how I did it in a sample project:

Nedim - this would be ideal, like you said. Give me some time to create a mock-up without all the proprietary info. and I'll upload.

I've not worked w/ JavaScript, but can prob. figure it out if I see some sample code.

Nedim  - Here's a mock-up without all the proprietary info.  (and a lot fewer slides! 😉). I appreciate anything you can do to help with the menu issue! You solution looks promising!
        Thanks!

  • Storyline doesn't include a way to do that. (JavaScript could probably do that, but I can't help with that.)

I suggest you don't show the built-in menu. After all, if everyone has to complete the first scene before chooses a branch, it means they'd have to see the entire menu until they reached the branching point. Just use a custom menu slide.

Thanks for your reply, JudyNollet ...Not what I was hoping to hear but I suspected that would be the answer. :(
