How to return to base layer after viewing a previous slide using the menu button.

Issue: When I use the Menu bar to navigate through the course, I am unable to return to the base layer after visiting the previous/next slide.  I have used buttons to go back to the base layer. It all works fine when I use the navigation buttons. However, when I am visiting slides using menu there appears to be an issue. For example, Imagine I am currently on a slide (Slide 2) with two layers. After I click a button that takes me to a layer, and then click on any of the slides using the dropdown menu, when I revisit the Slide 2 I am directly taken to the layer I was in and not the base layer. 

How do I return to the base layer?
