Introducing myself! đź‘‹

Hey E-Learning Heroes!

Some of you may have seen me lurking around this community over the last month or so, but I wanted to formally introduce myself.

My name is Noele Flowers, and I just joined Articulate's team in mid-December as our new Director of Community. That means it's mine and my team's job to work on all things E-Learning Heroes. It also means that I have the most fun job at Articulate because part of my job is to hang out with you here 🤯

A bit about me:

  • Professionally: I've worked in the community industry for about ten years, always at the intersection of community and e-learning. I used to run community at a company called Teachable, then I ran a team that built training for community managers at a company called Commsor, and then I ran my own consultancy for a few years.
  • Personally: I live in New York's mid-Hudson Valley (do I have any neighbors here?). I love gardening, watching movies, and enjoying the great outdoors (this time of year, find me on the ski slopes⛷️).
  • Fun fact: Before I worked in tech, I was a public high school choir teacher 🎶. I find any community I'm a part of, no matter what it's about, I always end up connecting with other musicians. We're everywhere!

I'm so excited to work with you to help make this community—which is already amazing—the best it can be. Here are a few ways we can connect:

  • Drop me a comment here saying hi! I'm hoping to meet as many E-Learning Heroes as I can. Bonus points if you can pass along a good movie rec.
  • Tag me freely when you're here interacting! I especially love getting tagged into cool examples of what you're building, or being pulled in to try to help facilitate a connection with another community member where I can.
  • Chat with me in real time! As I'm getting up to speed here, I'm making an open call for community members who are interested and willing to have a 30 minute, informal "virtual coffee chat" with me so that I can get to know you and hear more about how you use ELH. If that appeals to you, you can learn more and let me know here

Thanks so much for reading—excited to get to know you all!

Cheers,

Noele

  • Hi Noele_Flowers! So nice to meet you—welcome! 🤗 A couple of recent movie recommendations I have are Anora and The Promised Land (from Denmark). Since you're a musician, I have to mention my all-time favorite film: Amadeus.

rachelatkaiser! What a perfect reply. I got the chance to catch Anora in theaters this year but haven't been able to check out The Promised Land yet. And, I'm pretty sure I saw Amadeus 10+ years ago—sounds like it's nice for a rewatch!

Nice to meet you :) So cool that you have a learning design boutique! What are some of the projects you've been working on lately?

Hehe Amadeus is always worth a rewatch IMO!

I can’t go into too many details, but I have a few projects swirling around, creating courses for preschool educators, mental health clinicians, and caseworkers, and accessibility "makeovers" for some college Title IX courses. All created in Storyline or Rise. :)

Hi, Noele, and congrats on the new gig! Happy to (virtually) meet you!
I'm a Program Manager on the Field Enablement team at Dolby - I handle our LMS for Content Creators and internal LMS for our Field Applications Engineers, who work closely with our licensees/partners like Apple, Sony, Tidal, Paramount, etc.
I have a technical background in film/video/music production, and kind of backed into this role a few years ago.
What genre of movies do you like? I can provide all kinds of recommendations!

So nice to meet you, thanks for the warm welcome! Working at Dolby and having the background you have, I'll BET you have a bunch of great recs. I like all kinds of movies, but in the last couple of months here are a few I've really enjoyed:

      • Just rewatched a favorite, "Tampopo" this week
      • I know it's cliche, but I watched "2001: A Space Odyssey" for the first time recently and was totally blown away
      • I really enjoyed "Didi" that just came out this year!

Enjoying checking out the library of courses you shared, too—do you work with a team to create those or are you the primary one developing and building those?

I work with a (very small) team of SMEs who support the Dolby tools/software used by content creators to create those courses. It's a highly-collaborative global effort.

Quick thoughts based off of your movie list -

        • "Didi" (which I have been meaning to see) makes me think you might like "Slacker" by Richard Linklater. It's a bit of a late-GenX time capsule at this point, but a classic one. Follow it up with "Dazed and Confused" for the 70's...
        • "Tampopo" leads me to both of Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns ("A Fistful of Dollars", "For A Few Dollars More", "The Good, The Bad, And the Ugly"), which "Tampopo" satirizes, but also the fantastic "Jiro Dreams of Sushi"...
        • And if you liked "2001" - Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" is probably my best modern suggestion to follow it up. Plus, the first 5 minutes are a serious test if you have a home theater setup with subwoofer. Another classic in the genre is Tarkovsky's "Solaris".
  • Hi Noele,

A saxophone-playing instructional designer here, in the San Diego area. My wife plays violin in two orchestras. As for a movie, you may like The Only Girl in the Orchestra. I believe we watched it on NetFlix.

Musicians—we're everywhere! So nice to meet you, John.

  • Hi, Noele_Flowers! Nice to "meet" you here in the community.

Here are a few oldies but goodies:

    • For Shakespeare: "Much Ado About Nothing" (the Branagh and Whedon versions are both excellent)
    • For hot film noir: "Body Heat"
    • For a laugh fest: "In & Out"
    • For laughter and amazing dancing: "Strictly Ballroom"
