Make audio play when object is tabbed to...

Good afternoon,

I'm trying something out with a quiz slide and narration.

I've got a multiple-choice slide and each answer option has it's own audio file to read the response for the user to choose. I'm trying to find a way for each audio file to play when the user tabs to the option instead of each option's state being 'selected'. Ideally I'd like the audio to play when the option 'gets focus' instead.

I've attached a version of the quiz slide in question.

All help gratefully received.

Thank you

Karen

  • Hi KarenWicks-029a with regards to accessibility, I would not pursue this method, as it will likely interfere with a users screen reader.

When accessing content using a screen reader such as JAWS, NVDA, the radio button is read and identified as a radio button, and also indicates if the button is selected.

If you choose to trigger an audio file when the radio button has focus, it will interfere with the information being provided by the users screen reader and will actually make the experience worse for assistive technology users.

Provided content is using the correct semantic HTML, you can leave it up to the users screen reader (text-to-speech, text-to-braille) to present the content to the user in the detail required.

Hi SamHill I thought it might. The issue I have is at my organisation we currently only have 1 person using JAWS. The default for most other users here is Windows Narration. Also, I've not got the ability to test any of my eLearning with any other screen readers such as JAWS or NVDA.

      Thanks
