New feature in Rise: Disable forward seeking

We just released a new feature in Rise that I’m excited to share with all of you! Now you can prevent learners from forwarding through videos in your course by disabling forward seeking. Learners can pause and go backward through the video, but not forward. This new feature is great for compliance courses and any other course with required video content since it prevents learners from skipping ahead.

Watch this video from CTO Arlyn Asch to learn all about disabling forward seeking:

  • Good news, everyone! We recently fixed an issue where forward-seeking in videos would revert to disabled after the lesson was viewed completely.

To take advantage of this fix, you'll want to republish any impacted courses.

Please let us know if you have any further trouble with forward-seeking in videos!

  • When using the "Disable forward seeking" feature, it works great on desktop browsers, but when testing on an iPhone, I can scrub past the furthest viewed progress after 2 or 3 attempts. Any thoughts?

  • Hi Devin, and welcome to the E-Learning Heroes Community! Glad you're here! 🎉

Thanks so much for reaching out!

    • Could you please share what version of iPhone you are experiencing this on (ex. iPhone X, 12, etc.)? This sounds related to a known bug that is on our team's radar, but it will be helpful to know a bit more about your setup.

In the meantime, I'd like to share a workaround that our talented Support Engineers have shared with others:

You can insert a video using a Storyline block with a complete course when media completes trigger. Here is an article that outlines how to hide/remove the player frame in Storyline for a chromeless design: https://community.articulate.com/articles/storyline-360-user-guide-how-to-hide-the-player

This way, the user only has a play/pause option when clicking on the video, and the continue button will not activate unless the video has finished playing.

We'll be sure to update this thread with any news so you are in the loop. Here's more information on how we tackle bugs.

Let us know if you have any other questions! Hope that you have a great start to 2024!

      Hello,

Thank you for your response. I am currently testing on an iPhone 13 ProMax and an iPhone 15. I love the clever workaround using Storyline 360. For the sake of the time constraints we are facing, we need to keep our workflow in Rise 360. Looking forward to hearing if this bug can be squashed!

      Best Regards,

Thanks for sharing the iPhone models where you experience this issue, Devin! I've added that information to the bug report. Our engineers are currently looking for a fix, and you'll be among the first to know once it's available.

Also, just a quick note that replying via email includes your signature here, so you are welcome to edit the post and remove that information if you wish!

When will this function be added to the Audio block, and all blocks that have audio capability?
i.e.: Timeline. Labeled Graphic. Process. Audio block
    Thank you!
