New in Storyline 360: Editing Images with AI Chat

Ever wish you could edit an image without starting over? Now you can! Just describe the changes you want in the chat box and watch your image update. Change the background, adjust clothing or appearance, add a new element, and more. Explore different ideas and variations while your original image stays unchanged.

Here are some examples:

  • To build out a scenario, I started with a Content Library image, then changed the actions (talking → drinking coffee → spilling it) to match my story

  • I tried different background settings by generating an image in the chat and changing it until it looked right before inserting on the slide

  • Instead of generating a brand new image, I asked AI to add, edit, and remove specific elements from an image already on my slide

    Annie,

This is a GAMECHANGER for me! The ability to edit existing assets in Storyline is a notable improvement and value-add.

Not having used the AI assistant sidebar in some time, I jumped in to the previous build (3.115.36688.0) and noted that the image generator could not work with reference images. Instead, it would do it's best to describe the image you were referencing with an AI-text description of the image. This would lead to a drastically different look with each generation, and thus would not be practical to use to create effective storytelling visuals due to the inconsistencies.

Side Note: I had to manually check for updates even though I have automatic updates enabled in order to see the new build.

After updating, I was able to successfully iterate on a reference image and make changes like you've demonstrated here. This is something I previously had to rely on a third-party subscription to do.

I noted the quality appears to be 720p, which can sufficiently stretch to 1080p canvas sizes without losing too much detail. I also noted that the character and scene consistency was really good. Whichever underlying model is being used is definitely up to par to creating something that feels natural. I personally find that the use of AI is more impactful when it is less glaringly obvious that the content is artificial.

Note how from scene to scene, things that would naturally move in the scene do, such as the animals and leaves. But the details on the character remain relatively sharp and consistent. All of these examples, including the reference image, were generated in the AI Assistant. Additionally, they are all first attempts.

One thing I noted was the lack of options to change the style, and aspect ratio, both useful features available when using the "Insert Image" feature from the AI Assistant toolbar. And speaking of which, I think it would be a great idea to allow reference images to be added there as well if possible.

This is a great addition to the software...excellent work to whomever contributed to this surprise upgrade!
