New layer is a different slide layout

Hey, everyone. I am trying to add a layer to a slide. However, once it's created, Storyline is giving the new layer a completely different slide layout (one that is in my slide masters) from the base layer. This new layout also completely covers all objects on the base layer rather than the usual faded appearance of base layer objects. When I go to click 'Apply Layout' to try to fix the issue, I'm only given feedback layer layouts to choose from. I'm wondering if I did something in my slide or feedback masters that may be causing this issue. Any ideas?

  • Any layer above the base has to use a Master Feedback Layout. If you want the layers to match the slide base, create a new Master Feedback Layout with that design.

Re: covering the base: It sounds like the background of the layer is filled. That may be how the Master is set up. So check the background of the Master and the individual layer, and adjust it as needed/as possible.

For reference, here's more info about visibility: Can't see the base from a layer? Or is it just dimmed? Is that what you want? Here's how to control base visibility... | Articulate - Community

This works to solve the layout issue, but then the new layer completely covers the base. I have the base layer set to dim but visible, but all elements disappear. I know the base is technically still visible because items that I drag off to the side of the slide can be seen. It's just the items on the slide itself that appear to be covered by this new layer.

As I said in my earlier reply, it sounds like your layers have a solid background. Refer to the link for more info re: base visibility.
