Progress bar in Articulate Storyline: Easy solution, using only one built-in variable
Hey everyone, I have created a video on how to create a progress bar in Storyline 360 - using only one built-in variable. I'm using the built-in variable Menu.Progress in the slide master.
Prior to recording this I only found solutions where you add triggers on the slides where you want your progress bar to fill up. You needed an extra variable to keep track of your progress and you would also have to put some kind of check in place, so that the progress bar doesn't fill up if you revisit a slide. If you create your progress bar this way, you have to make many adjustments when you add or delete slides in your project.
What I found is that you can use the built-in variable Menu.Progress to get rid of this hassle. I wanted to share this with you because I think it saves a lot of time in production and maintenance of your course.

I asked the following question on the forum: Progress bar with 100 steps
Is there maybe someone here who can answer that question? Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I'm trying to create a progress bar on my course using the Menu.Progress variable, however when I add anything to the master slide, like a progress bar rectangle, it doesn't pull through on any of my other slides linked below.
I'm wondering if it's the way the course pulled through from PPT as it created multiple master slides but I deleted them all and edited them so they were all under 1 master. I created a separate test version using draft slides and it worked perfectly which is how I've noticed the difference.
Does anyone have any advice? I've attached a screenshot, the green line is what I'm trying to add to the course.

Hi ehawkins, i've looked at your project and the problem is that there are pictures on the master slides that are obstructing the view onto the progress bar. On the master slides there are pictures above the progress bar rectangle, which you can see for example on the 4th slide in your master where picture 6.png is in the way. i would recommend to move the rectangle all the way to the bottom of your slide and then to crop or resize the pictures, like i have done in the attached project file. I hope this helps. All the best, Georg

Hi George,
Exactly what I was looking for thank you! I do have a couple more questions if you don't mind:
- My menu.progress variable only appears until the questions come up - should I still be able to get the progress bar during the questions and is there anything blocking them from appearing?
- Because I want the progress bar on all 27 slides, how should I split the states up? And should I match it to the % that the menu.progress variable says when I preview the course?
Now I've got the progress bar on all the slides, it's still not pulling through so wondering if it's something to do with the above.
Thanks!
