Rise courses across US & EU: Why are we still unable to transfer courses between data centers?
We started out on the US servers a long time ago, but as a public organization, we’ll probably have to continue using the EU servers. Furthermore, this transfer issue may prevent us from sharing modules with external partners.
It’s strange that Articulate hasn’t offered a solution yet (other than rebuilding everything block by block!). I see that this issue has been raised for at least a year, but the company hasn’t responded.
We’ll need to review this matter before our next renewal!
Hi annicksmeers-5a,
Thanks so much for reaching out!
Once you choose a region (EU or US), your Rise/Review content and collaboration remain within that region. While that does limit cross-region collaboration, we built it that way for customers who’ve told us they need strong data separation in order to maintain compliance.
I'd love to learn more about how this is impacting your team.
- How often do you run into this situation?
- Are there specific collaboration scenarios where it's creating the biggest challenge?
- Are you using any workarounds today?
These details will help our team better understand how this affects your workflow.

Hi Kelly
It affects everything in our work. The problem is not for the customers, that are new to Articulate, as they have the oppertunity to choose. The problem is for us that are long time customers. First problem is that we are bound to stay on US platforms, as manually copy paste recreating 621 courses and relinking them on all platforms will be a herculean task. We (as a public instutution) can be forced to leave american servers, but will then basically loose everything. The second and more pressing problem however is, that our collaborators are starting to create EU based Subscribtions, and this means that we are not able to share with them. This is not a cross-Atlantic-collaboration problem, which i agree is a narrow customer case, it is the fact that your most loyal customers in europe will be unable to share what they produce with collaborators because we "live" in the US.
There are no feasible workarounds, as we are a university, everything in the courses need to be verbatim as approved by the professors so the AI soloution is not viable, as it will change the content.
I run into the situation with our DPO critizising my use of an american based server weekly, and the other problem happens every time we start up a new collaboration.- Kelly9 days agoCommunity Member
Thank you MikkelStaads177 for explaining the issue so well. Like you say: there are no feasible workarounds. And I just don't get it why it's so hard for Articulate to understand. They have been ignoring their long-time customers in Europe since these customers have started experiencing the issue (by accident, because obviously there was no clear communication about this from Articulate when the EU data center was launched). 😒

Thank you for keeping the discussion going, i was trying to answer the other Kellys questions, but i have been i direct contact with several different people at Articulate, and no, i think they feel secure that we won't leave and loose all our content. That is true for at least a couple of years, but cutting from 10 seats to one seat in our organisation and fasing out articulate from there will definetly be a possibility.
We must hope they come around though.
