RISE Webhosting vs Preview link

I am currently exploring options to share some courses without the use of an LMS and I have been trying to test the webhosting option BUT this has proven to not be viable for our infrastructure.

I am now wondering if sharing the PREVIEW link could work as I have seen other posted noted.  Im curious what differences I would see between the two, and to understand why I am seeing Articulate staff responses recommending the web publishing approach instead of sharing the preview link.

Ive noted that neither capture learner specific data, neither track completion or progress.  What other differences should I consider in making this decision?

The preview link has been known to change, I believe the EULA states it cannot be used for distributing content.

  • I use both the share link and Review360 link. The thing to remember is the share link is 'live', so if you are in the middle of editing a Rise course, someone viewing may be affected, if you publish as a web version and host on your server or use the Review360 link, this wouldn't happen.

  • Hello KellyRipley,

    Thanks for reaching out!

You are correct that both Web hosting and using a Rise share link do not capture learner-specific data, or track completion or progress. Here is the key difference between the two to guide your decision on what to use for course sharing:

If you’re not tracking learner progress, hosting your course on your own web server is the best long-term option. If you just need to share an unpublished course, especially with stakeholders who don’t have access to Review 360, the share link is a great and easy way to collaborate. Just keep in mind that it’s not meant for publishing or long-term hosting.

You can check out more details in this article:

Let me know if you have any other questions. I’m always happy to help.

Thank you for the fast reply Eric.   What I am looking for is WHY you and others say hosting your course on your own web server is the best long-term option and that Preview link not meant for publishing or long-term hosting.

      Will the preview link expire?

Will the preview link stop working if too many people access it?

etc.  It seems that webhosting is the recommendation and preference for Articulate but there is no reason why someone can not use the preview link.
