Sharing and seeking: ideas for making videos more interactive
I’m working on a course that uses almost all video. The content’s good, but the client is asking for ideas for making it more interactive.
Someone sent me the 21 Jump Street movie site as an example. I know, right? I like how the trailer layered movie trivia questions over the video. I thought this would make a good example so I tried building it in SL.
This is what I put together: Elearning Quiz Demo
I’d also be interested in what you think the right number of questions per video might be. Most videos will be 1-2 minutes.
Thank you!

Hi all, I've been investigating video interaction as well. I was searching for another thread from a while ago, but all I found was the video on YouTube. I'm not sure who the owner is, but here you go:
Bruce is correct. Mike Enders created that version of the interactive video effect.

Woa, i like that concept!!!

I'm having trouble with this interaction. The video is paused, but the timeline continues when I am on a layer. As soon as I hide my layer, the pop ups are out of sync. Here is my example...

First time using Google Drive, so here goes!

G'day
I am new to Storyline and interactive video with quizzes is very interesting. Sorry if this is a bit of a dumb question, but would this work with an embedded feed from YouTube for example as the base layer video? I assume you can embed a YouTube into Storyline like you can with the new Studio13. To be able to deliver a lot of video from a streaming server instead of "loading" it into the Storyline module seems much more efficient. However can you build the interaction over the top of it so to speak. I hope I am making sense.

Hi, Allan: you can create interactive video using youtube sources as well. I've done this with the "naughty bear" mockup where I inserted a youtube video as "video from website." See attached. All sorts of things you can do.
If you are interested in interactive video, you might also find this post interesting. http://community.articulate.com/forums/p/32218/175489.aspx#175489
Especially check out the versions that Matthew and Rebecca tweaked.

Hi Daniel
Thanks mate as they say in my "kultcha" in the Deep South. I really appreciate the response. Those resources are helpful and I really should have done more research before shooting off questions - the creative juices were flowing a little fast at the time.
In your naughty bear story i couldn't see anything on the navigation link to the side "web object" I think it said - is that because it is intentional or is it a problem? Please let me try again to define what I am trying to achieve. I need to mention up front everything has to work on tablets especially iPads.
- I want to pull in an embedded youtube video of say 10 minutes length into the storyline module - am I correct that it has to be a web object right?
- I want it to look like it is part of the module like the excellent airport example that started this forum thread.
- In a similar way I want a trigger button similar to the ? question mark button appear on top of the video when specified and it pause the video and the interaction/quiz question appears on top and behaves the same way as the airport security example.
- There will also be a time when the choices actually replace the youtube video playing with another one ... would that also be possible?
- Finally I might as well ask the question seeing we are on this. Can the responses from the learners be fed by Tincan to a LMS .... I think the answer is yes. DUH of course I have no idea how yet but if all this is possible it is worth working on it. :-)
Thanks Daniel and everyone for the help

Hi, Allan: I forgot to delete the second blank "web object" slide. Sorry about that.
Articulate has put together a very informative blog post and Screenr on inserting and manipulating the behavior of youtube/website videos: http://www.articulate.com/support/storyline/how-to-add-a-youtube-video-to-storyline
Two basic ways to insert website vid, and each has certain strengths and weakness which the post above and Screenr make clear. I think it'll answer most of your questions. Let me know how it goes. --Daniel
