Slide numbering issue

I 'inherited' a Storyline project from someone before me at my organization. I have been tasked to apply some updates to this project; one of which is to change the order of some of the slides. My issue is that although I have rearranged the slides with no issues, the number sequence remains the same. Renaming the slides, does not affect the numbering sequence at all. I am required to publish a Word document of these changes for the stakeholders to review and when I do so the sequence of the slides is based on the numbering not the actual sequence in which they are aligned in the Storyline project or the Next or Previous button triggers. I have attached a screenshot to help explain. As you can see in the screenshot, the project begins with 1.1, then goes to 1.19, then back to 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and so on. This is how it should be when I publish to Word, but it reverts back to 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and so on. Any advice as to how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated - thank you!

  • Consider how complex branching could be in a course. How would the program determine the best order for publishing to Word? So I assume that publishing to Word was designed to always follow the numbered sequence because that's an easy default.

Based on the image you provided, it looks like that course is linear.

Usually when slides are dragged into new positions in a linear course, the numbering updates automatically. But that doesn't happen if the new path is determined by next-button triggers that jump to specific slides (instead of just "next slide").

    • If slide 1.1 has a "jump to slide 1.19" trigger, try changing that to "jump to next slide." And then rearrange the slides as needed by dragging and dropping them into position.

Be aware that the built-in Menu doesn't always update after slides are rearranged and/or inserted. If you're using the Menu, check the order there after you get the actual sequence straightened out. As needed, use the Reset from story button in the Menu section of the Player properties to rebuild the Menu based on the current sequence.
