Something went wrong Storyline 360 encountered an error while trying to publish
- 24 days ago
Hey CJLu,
Sorry to hear that you're having trouble publishing from Storyline.
Based on the error message, Storyline is failing while processing a temporary video file. You can tell from the “.hls” and “.ts” file path in the Temp folder. This usually points to a specific video from the course that may be corrupted.
The next step is to identify which video in the project is causing the issue. I understand this course may have multiple videos, but there’s a fairly efficient way to narrow it down:
- Create a copy of your .story file.
- Delete half of the slides, then try publishing.
- If it publishes successfully, the issue is in the slides you removed.
- If it still fails, the issue is in the slides that remain.
- Continue halving the slides until you pinpoint the exact slide.
Once you've located the problematic file, and if including it is still necessary, I suggest re-encoding the file with a tool like Handbrake. This video outlines the steps for that process.
Let me know how it goes!
Thank you, StevenBenassi you were correct.
I deleted the corrupted video and reimported it after running your test, and it published successfully!
:)
That's great to hear, CJLu. You're welcome!

How can I acquire the technical knowledge you possess on this subject?

Hey CJLu,
Happy to share some additional insight.
The screenshot you provided was a big help in pinpointing the source of your issue. Some Storyline errors can be vague, but the one you shared was specific to a video element causing the disruption. After much exposure to Storyline publishing issues, I've noticed most are caused by a corrupted element from a Slide. Usually, some form of media file.
If you run into Storyline quirks in the future, try a Google search using the format below:
- "site:Articulate.com [specific Storyline issue]"
You may discover community discussions where other users were facing the same issue. Perhaps with a solution already shared.
Also, you have access to an abundant amount of on-demand webinars from the Articulate 360 Training page. These are great for brushing up on your Storyline skills and troubleshooting. I encourage you to explore some of those when you have the time!
