Story View print out?

Hey all, short of taking a bunch of screen shots and compositing them together, is there a way to print out the Story View? I'm a visual kinda guy (years in advertising will do that to a person) and want to make sure all the connections in my project are where they need to be.

Thanks in advance for the continued awesomeness!

  • Bonjour,

Toujours pas de possibilité en 2021 d'imprimer une story view ?

    Merci d'avance pour votre retour.

Hello, it's been over 8 years since this feature was requested. Any news? This is a feature that we need so it would be awesome if this was implemented.

      Hi Jonas,

Thanks for checking in! No new news to report now, but I've added your vote to the report we're tracking on this. You're in the right place to receive any new updates since you're linked to this discussion!

In the meantime, I found a suggestion from one of our community members you might want to give a try!

Hi all, just adding my voice to the near decade old request for a print option for the story view. The advantage of this is that the diagram effectively becomes a flow chart for repeating a successful chain of scenes and connections, without having to manually go through each slide, and then wonder whether the flow will remain intact.

I have a large number of storyline projects, some of which need updating with newer materials, some which need to be modernised and the printed story view would expedite that. Cut and paste screen shots doesn't really do it for me.

after 10 years nothing had changed...what is the point of all this commentaries and suggestions?

Im kind of new in SLand amazed after working many years with other design programs and ANY program in general, how easy is to export, to print, to make a jpg..something!
but here even the option of Publish to word doesnt work for many people,.. why is that?

is that option really so difficult to do??  what is the real issue? .. and  why when i click Print it taked me to publish??
    thanks

      Hi Ana!

To print a Storyline course, you have to publish to Word, which includes screenshots in the published output version. If you do not see the screenshots in the published Word document, you'll want to change the Screenshot Size in the Publishing screen. Once you have the Word document open, you can customize the layout however you would like.

Please let me know if you have additional questions!

  • Hi Lauren this is not the request that we've been asking for all these years.  The Word output is great for review of the slides but to be able to print the Story View allows review of the flow and connectivity.  I'll be sure to add my request to what must be a large number of requests for this over the decade.

This initial planning (the story view) forms the basis of all our projects. Thus, in my opinion, the option to print and view the story view in more detail, should have been a main feature of Storyline.

How can it be so difficult to create an option for this?

My request to add to all the others is: to be able to Print the story view, plus having the option to zoom into certain parts. Print the main story view and print the zoomed areas separately as well.

I don't think that it is reflecting good on your company, that after 9-10 years of having it as a "POPULAR FEATURE REQUEST", we still can't print a Story View diagram.

  • A decade old feature request by so many and still no update or solution. I, like many others are disappointed you are not listening to your customers, but you offer guidance on TNA, do you not see the irony there.

    Regards

    Adam

  • Hi there - I think the answer is this is not possible. What I think is being asked is can we have a schema print view (think relationships view in MS Access).

The issue is this is fairly complex code base - PowerPoint does not have this feature..... It would be very useful for a large number of us, especially when creating schemas (which can be complex and non linear). You can use a screen shot tool (scroll about until you get the whole schema), but it may lack resolution and have rather "long" links.

I have wanted to do this for over 10 years, and when I first bought SL1 it crashed more than Crypto, BUT - SL is a great tool now and instead, I start with a schema elsewhere usually and just try keep the two "Synced".

I feel we are a little unfair to Articulate - we have a great product but it is not that easy... Remember - SL started out as essentially PowerPoint with PlugIns (amped up). I tried getting MS Access to create eLearning and popped a request in but to no avail (forgive me for being flippant, and to be fair - I have used it to create eLearning using a database back end a long time ago - with automation to boot...).

To summarise, in my personal opinion this would be a very very useful tool, especially for those of us who think in a database type way but I accept that at the moment this is not on the Radar. Perhaps there is an elegant alternative but for now, I use a pencil and an A3 pad (and rubber and ruler).

Would it be a great feature? Yes

Would it be really useful for collaboration? Yes

Would it improve dev time? Yes

Would it help in lots of ways? Yes

Will it happen? Today isn't looking good, and tomorrow ain't our day either...

Missed opportunity - Yes (for me at least).

Keep up the great work everyone and thanks Articulate - it is a great tool.....

  • Hi Simon,

Thank you for your thoughts on this and the kind words! Even though printing Story View isn't an option, a feature request has been submitted and is something we are tracking. This conversation is linked to that request, so if it makes it onto our feature roadmap, we’ll make sure to update you!

    Thanks for reaching out!
