Storyline : closed captions out of sync

Hello, I'm using Storyline 360 to build a tutorial that includes a video mp4. This video has been generated via Storyline too and imported in s slide of the tutorial. When I'm navigating in the video via the progress bar, voices are synchronized, but closed captions are out of sync. Note that it is not the case when I'm navigating via the progress bar into the video alone (i.e. not imported in the tutorial).

Thank you for your help

  • I’m wondering if there are any updates on this issue. I am currently working on a project that involves several video files. These videos feature a subject matter expert (SME) speaking, but I’ve noticed that the audio is out of sync with the video (speaker's lips movement). The original source files are MP4s, with one video inserted per slide. Any advice?

      Hi AndreasKuswa675,

      Thanks for reaching out!

I understand the audio doesn't match up with the video when imported into Storyline. I'm happy to help and have a few troubleshooting questions to get started.

If you're willing to share your file, I'd be happy to take a closer look. You can upload it here or privately in a support case!

The SME recorded the video using MS PowerPoint, which automatically placed it on the slides. When I import the PowerPoint presentation into Storyline, the video is also imported.

I then attempted to detach and save the video from PowerPoint before importing it, and then I inserted the video as a separate file into the Storyline slides; however, it is still out of sync, quite noticeably.

I then asked the SME to record the video as a separate file outside of PowerPoint and imported it individually into Storyline. The problem is fixed.

I'm not sure why this is happening, as the video plays perfectly fine when I play it back in PowerPoint or just the media file using a media player.

  • Hi Luc!

Sorry to hear the closed captioning appears out of sync in your Storyline course. I'd be happy to help with this!

To clarify, does this behavior occur while previewing the course within Storyline, or after it's been published to a different destination? Such as an LMS?

If you've confirmed that you are working locally, and a repair of your Storyline 360 installation doesn't improve the behavior, would you be comfortable sharing a copy of your .story file for testing? Feel free to upload it here in the discussion or privately through a support case.

We'll delete it from our system as soon as troubleshooting is complete!
