Storyline course completion issue with Cornerstone in Demand
Hello all, we've been publishing our online courses in SCORM 2004 3rd edition and we're having a few people having completion issues accessing them through Cornerstone OnDemand. For most of the cases we've seen, the users claim that they've completed the course already through the basis for completion (pre-assessment, final assessment) but for some reason, the LMS does not mark them complete. Upon checking their course, they are bookmarked to go back either to the start of the course or in the middle of taking the quiz. Most common case is when someone passes the pre-assessment, where they would've been marked complete already. We are looking at a couple of potential causes like LMS timeouts, internet connectivity issues or network bandwidth issues, but checking here if we have any similar cases that might help us understand this particular issue. Thank you!

We had the same issue and consulted with Cornerstone on this.
I have now added a new slide to the introduction of each course advising users:
- Only have one window/session of a course open at a time
- When completing a course – if you leave the course for any duration of time (i.e. answer a call, go on break etc), close the course down and when ready to resume the course, re-launch it and pick up where you left off.
- Where you view an embeded external link; once you finish viewing the external link, you will need to return to the course window that is already open. To do this:
- hover over the Edge/Chrome browser in your taskbar
- click on the course window
- complete the course
If the above steps are not followed; unfortunately your completion/ assessment result will not register on the system.
Hi KarenByrnes,
I see that you've opened a support case and that you're working with our colleague Carlo. You're in excellent hands!
We'll continue the conversation over in your case.
Have a great start to your day!

We, too, are having a similar issue with some of our courses. People complete and exit, but they still show as In Progress on their learner pages and in our reports, even though they have successfully completed and passed the course. It doesn't happen to any particular user or with any particular course. It is very random and, of course, when we try to reproduce it for our LMS to see, the courses complete as expected. I have also put multiple triggers on the Results slides to force the courses to close (an Exit button and a trigger that says Complete course/Completed/Passed when the user clicks Button 1 (Exit button) if they got a certain percent).
We are using Adobe Learning Manager (ALM) and have contacted them. We have also sent them some of the files and they can't reproduce it either on their end. We are publishing the courses as SCORM 2004, 4th edition.
Hi MickeyHorndasch!
Sorry to hear you're also having issues with course completion status in your LMS!
As I've shared with others, testing the published output with SCORM Cloud is a helpful way to determine the source of the issue. If you can reproduce the same behavior in SCORM Cloud, please share your files through a support case so we can take a closer look.

Was there a resolution on this? I am having a similar issue. I have a course and on the final slide, I have built in 3 methods of marking the course complete - the first one is to mark the course complete as soon as the timeline starts on the slide... that alone should do it, but also have that rule on two buttons on that slide as well. Some people are reporting that they are not being marked as complete. LMS is also CSOD.
Hi AndrewHoskins-e!
Sorry to hear you've also run into setbacks with Storyline course completion, on Cornerstone LMS!
As Kelly shared, only certain learners being affected could indicate this is an issue with the LMS, and not the course itself. The best way to confirm that, is by testing the published output in SCORM Cloud. However, if you're observing the same behavior in SCORM Cloud, please share your .story file with our team, through a support case.
They'd be happy to continue troubleshooting with you!
Hi MiguelGococo-4e,
I understand that you're experiencing an issue with Cornerstone incorrectly marking courses as incomplete for some learners. That doesn't sound right!
If the course plays as expected for some, but not others, it's likely not an issue with the course itself. To be sure, you can test the course in SCORM Cloud.
- If the course plays correctly in SCORM Cloud, you may want to reach out to your LMS contact for further assistance.
- If your course isn't working in SCORM Cloud, please share your file here or in a support case so we can take a closer look!
