Tracking course progression and # of attempts to complete

I would like to track how far a student has progressed within a course. I use Articulate Rise authoring tool and Learn Upon LMS. What are best ways to track an users activity? The default activity tracked by the LMS is only course completion. Would also be good to know how many times the student is entering the course.
