What is “metrics.articulate.com” in the scorm package?

Hello to everyone and to the staff members.
6 months ago, a question was asked by AlexandraBrucks  about “SCORM package wants to contact metrics.articulate.com”.  PhilMayor gave a short, cryptic and incomprehensible answer as usual 😁 but nothing else.
Today I have a customer asking me the same question.
Can I have all the precise information about this call at “https://metrics.articulate.com/v1/import” from the scorm package? Please.
What exactly is it for?
Or where exactly can I find the information?
And is it possible to deactivate this link?   With the means to do it precisely?
Thank you very much in advance for reserving your answers unless they are verified and correct. It may be of use to many others.

Have a good day.

  • Hi ThierryEMMANUEL!

Happy to share some insight on this!

The domain you're referring to (metrics.articulate.com) is a network endpoint, used by Articulate 360 services. These endpoints help track how users interact with web pages and apps, allowing Articulate to continually improve it's products.

You can opt out of sending usage data to Articulate, which includes disabling the 'metrics.articulate.com' domain. Here's how:

    1. Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app from your computer's system tray, or the shortcut icon on your desktop.
    2. Click the drop-down arrow in the upper right corner of the app window, and choose Preferences.

        3. Uncheck the Privacy box, then click Save.

This will prevent your Articulate 360 desktop products, and the projects you publish from sending usage data to Articulate servers. If you require opting your entire organization out, you can set the following registry key to 'true':

    HKLM\Software\Articulate\Common\Settings\PrivacyOptOut = true

Please let me know if you need anything else!

  • Thank you very much StevenBenassi . In this case, if I understand correctly, by unchecking the Privacy box, all my future projects will no longer communicate with “metrics.articulate.com”, and will no longer allow Articulate “to continually improve its products”, which I don't really want. At least, not until I tick it again.
And to be even more precise: if I export a finished project in scorm today, with the Privacy box unchecked, then the customer installs it on his LMS, without any further contact with me: the project no longer communicates with “metrics.articulate”? Even if I check the Privacy box again when creating my project.  Maybe it's a silly question.
Finally, and most importantly, so that I can explain to my customer: please confirm that only the necessary information on the learner's behavior/interaction with the application is transmitted, and absolutely no content information, sensitive or simply wanting to remain private.
