Which Quiz record is exported to LMS when Quiz retries is enabled?

Hello, I feel as though I am still getting to grips with RISE 360.
I have a Quiz module that I want a user to have two additional attempts to pass, so three in total. If I publish to LMS as Pass/Fail, then if the user fails on the first attempt it creates a failed record in the LMS and the retires, even when passed don't create a passed record in the LMS.

If I publish as Passed/Incomplete and the user does not pass within the number of retries they get stuck within the program with no way to advance. 
Am I missing a simple solution here? thank you
