Why can Chrome translate Storyline 360 captions but not Rise 360 VTT subtitles?

Hi folks,

I ran into an issue related to Chrome’s “Translate to …” feature and wanted to check if anyone else has experienced the same behavior:

  • In Storyline 360, Chrome can translate the closed captions displayed in the player.
  • In Rise 360 (video block + VTT file), Chrome cannot translate the subtitles.

Is this an expected difference between the two tools?
Or is there a recommended approach for making subtitles in Rise translatable through Chrome?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated—thanks! 🙏

  • Hi ChenJane,

Thanks for raising this question! What you’re seeing is expected right now. Storyline’s captions are displayed directly in the player, so Chrome can read that text and translate it.

Rise subtitles come from VTT files, and browsers display those in a different way that Chrome Translate can’t currently pick up. That’s why the behavior ends up being different between the two tools.

I can see how having translatable subtitles in Rise would make multilingual reviews a lot smoother, so I’ve added your experience to our feature request. If there’s a specific workflow or audience you’re supporting, feel free to share more details, and I’m happy to pass that context along to the team.
