Xlif problems
Hello I have a lot of problem when I try to translate a xlif export of a route RISE. Indeed, when I open the export in a translation tool like smartcat.ai or SDL Trados Studio 2019, I oddly have line breaks or tabs that do not normally exist in my path. You have to delete them by hand in the translation tool.
And so when I re-import the translated and cleaned files, I lose my text formatting or I have [Object Object] tags that appear in my RISE module (see pj).
What to do to avoid this?

Have you tried discarding the formatting to make XLIFF files easier to work with?
Here's how:

Click Settings in the upper right corner and go to the Translations tab.

Deselect Include HTML formatting.

Click Export XLIFF File and save the file to your computer.

Translate the file in the tool of your choice.
- Import the translated XLF file back into Rise 360.

Hi Alyssa,
We are also facing issues when importing the translated XLF file into Rise 360.
Issue: Translated content is not updated - it remains in English language.
Actually I did not use any special tool for the translation.
Steps I followed:
- Created a sample course in Rise 360
- Deselected Include HTML formatting
- Exported the content as XLF file format
- Manually translated a few contents using Google Translate tool
- Then imported the XLF file into the Rise 360
But the contents are still in English language only - the translated content is not shown.
Please let me know, if there is any workaround or fix for this issue.

Hello there,
in the past we used the export function of an xlf file and could insert the data into the online tool we use for translation flawlessly.
With our latest submission we followed the same procedure. Unfortunately the developers of the translation services noted an issue arising with parts of the Html code: sometimes the text is cointained inside a block of html and not easy to display thus translatable. (see screenshot)
Have you encountered any such problems? I ask the question both to @articulate support and @other users.We would like to avoid issues like this in the future: the ad-hoc solution they had to deploy costed extra time.

Hello, Marco! When you export your course for translation, do you have the option checked to "include HTML formatting?"
Choosing that option will add extra HTML tags to keep your text formatting. You can try deselecting this option if it's causing extra work for the translation provider. Keep in mind you'll need to reformat text in the translated version of your course.

thank you for your answer. I am positive that I had left the option clicked so that the text kept the HTML formatting.
I would like to ask you an additional question: What happens to a file without the HTML tagging when its translation is out back into Rise? This would be my next question.
I sense a lot of manual work after that to make it again coherent with the initial design. Hi Marco!
If you uncheck the "include HTML formatting" option, this exports your content in easy to translate blocks of text. However, it doesn’t contain the coding necessary to maintain any formatting you’ve applied to that content.
You're correct that you would have to go back and apply all of the text formatting, such as text color, size, and emphasis.

Is there anyway a webinar can be scheduled to teach us how to do this. I get how to export and import, I am struggling with using SmartCat or any other translation tool we should use. In SL its so easy with a word document, but Rise it is so complicated... Please help....
Hi there, Julie. I'm sorry you're hitting some speed bumps with using translation tools. We don't endorse using one tool over another because of their different features and support.
But, to get some better community help, can you let us know what kinds of challenges you're seeing? If you want to share a quick Peek 360 screencast of where it's not working for you, all the better!

Hi there, Joanna. Which translation software are you using? If you're using Trados SDL, Suzannah's steps should help. You'll want to export your file from Trados again, and then upload the new file to your Rise 360 course to restore missing text and get rid of the [object Object] tags.

All fixed now - it was Trado's fault - changing options setting helped.

Any idea the XLIFF translation process is smooth in Rise. If not we need to move to other tools for localization project request. Can Articulate confirm on this?

Hi, SibaPrasad. While we don't have specific steps for SDL Trados Studio, this user guide covers the 4 steps for translating a course. Other folks in the community may have tips specifically for SDL Trados Studio, so I'll open the floor for their recommendations.

I am currently working with our internal Translation Team and also with Articulate support on this and they are being very helpful. But I am confused. I have a course that has to be translated (has been at this point) to 14 languages.
I create the copy of the course and export the XLIFF file.
this file goes to our translation team.
They returned the XLIFF files nothing changed in the code except the text that requires translating. NO XML or HTML code or IDS have changed.
Importing a file back into the course finishes as Import Succsessful
The text has not changed.
Working with the Articulate Support Team I sent them my course and the English and other language course as requested.
They took the language course and did something with it in SmartCat (never heard of it) and apparently converted it to XLIFF 1.2 which I thought was already exported and the same as nothing change except the text to be translated.
importing the file then worked for the Support Team.
So do we need to purchase another application to convert the exported XLIFF files to be able to import them again which is not really feasible.
Currently we now I have an external team manually copy and pasting the translations to new courses to get them done, but this should not be the case?
Hi, Darren. You shouldn't have to use a second translation software. I see that Angelo was working with you, and he had a copy of your course in Rise 360. He used the XLF from that course, translated it with a tool that we have available (Smartcat), and then imported the translated XLF into the same course.
I'm not sure why the translated XLF files from your team aren't working. Angelo is able to help further! You can reply back to him with the translation software your team is using, and we'll continue investigating.

We are still baffled at this point also as we have several teams working on this and still no joy. At the moment we have teams simply copying and pasting into a new rise copy just to get the modules done by the deadlines. We have tried everything from exporting the XLF file and simply pasting in the translated test into it, saving it and importing it again and it still says Successful but the text stays in English. At this point I am wondering if the Support team would be available for a call on this? I sent Angelo a few questions by email return and no responses yet but I am sure he is busy.
