Hey, folks--I'm going to need to buy an iPad to test client Storyline courseware, and also to use as a portfolio for projects I create in Storyline. I know the iPad 3 has the Retina display, but is there a real difference in quality between the iPad 2 and iPad 3 in terms of how Storyline content looks? I'm willing to fork over the extra money for the iPad 3 if people say there's a substantial difference in how the Storyline content looks; otherwise, I'll opt for the iPad 2 for now.

I've been testing on an iPad 2 and it looks great. Obviously the retina display is going to display colors more crisply regardless of what program we're talking about, but I don't think the extra money is necessary if you're more concerned with just testing the visual elements & functionality. If it looks good on an iPad 2, it's going to look good on an iPad 3 as well (probably even better on the 3 because of the retina display).
Thanks, Jamie--glad you're happy with it on an iPad 2. But per my original note, I would want to use it for my portfolio display as well for prospective clients. I haven't seen Storyline content on an iPad 3, so I don't know how it compares to what I've seen on the iPad 2. If anyone else has hands-on knowledge, I'd appreciate hearing whether there's a real difference between the two in terms of how Storyline content looks. If there's no particular difference, then I'll buy the iPad 2 for now and save up for the iPad 4 next year. Thx!
I reckon you'll see some pixelation on the ipad3 as there are two factors to consider; the resolution (2048 x 1536) and ppi (264).
The higher the ppi the more crisp something will look. Most monitors nowadays are ~ 100ppi, so unless the publishing engine accounts for the higher ppi there will likely be some pixelation.

I hope we'll hear from someone (perhaps one of our stalwart Articulate staffers?) who has tried Storyline content on both the iPad 2 and iPad 3, and can tell us what difference, if any, they see. I would of course expect any hi-res photos in the courseware to look better on the iPad 3, but often we don't use hi-res images in eLearning because of their bulk, anyway. So I hope we'll hear from someone who has seen Storyline content on both iPads and can weigh in on this question.
Hey guys. Here's an article that should help explain things. Basically the default size should work on both iPads. We don't target for either resolution of the iPad but you could theoretically create Storyline content that did. Of course the iPad 3's resolution would be problematic to target for since you would be limiting your audience (my monitors don't have that kind of resolution for example). So the content should look about the same on both devices if you stick with the default size.
Hey, Justin--thanks! This is very helpful. I plan to stick with the default size for my Storyline project unless a client specifically has a good reason to resize. That way I know it'll look good on as many browsers as possible. Simple and consistent is good. So now knowing that there's not likely to be a substantial difference in user experience visual quality between iPad 2 and iPad 3, I have more flexibility in which iPad I choose, which is great.
I just published my first Storyline course (after 5 iterations) and here are my observations (comparing desktop 1080P, 24" and ipad3):
1. Native articulate content (buttons, and other things created in Storyline) appears fine on both.
2. Some images that appear fine on the monitor appear to be pixelated on iPad3.
3. The navigation on iPad3 is not as smooth as that on the desktop (not a major issue)
I published the file in native resolution. I am now going to increase the resolution and republish, hoping to see an improvement. Any recommendations on the resolution for the images that we import in the course to avoid such pixelation.
