Exit Confirmation Prompt

Jun 27, 2013

Hi all,

Is there a native exit confirmation prompt in Storyline?

Hi there Mike :)

I'm sorry, but no, there currently isn't a built-in method for this. I do think this is a great idea, though. If you get a chance, you might want to submit this as a feature request.

In the meantime, you could certainly make one quite easily.

For example, you could create a prompt in a layer - or, you could create a lightbox - and have the actual "Exit Course" trigger tied to a button on that layer or lightbox. If the user doesn't want to exit, they could simply close the prompt and continue with the course.

Thanks and good luck with the project!

Thanks Christine,

I will suggest it. I will settle for the lesser of two evils.

My course uses alot of layers and if you swap a layer with a prompt layer, the original layers content disapears when the prompt closes. Unless there is SL functionality I am unaware of.

Lightboxing works but has an unfortunate visual side effect, using the entire slide with an opaque background.

Again, unless I am missing some functionality I will light box my exit confirmation.

Smiles,

Mike

Hi Michael,

Actually - you should be able to disable the option to hide the other layers. So, if you receive the prompt layer with any other layers open, they should stay that way.

You can change this by clicking on the "cogwheel" for the layer and un-checking the "Hide other slide layers" option:

I'm also attaching a quick example for you, just in case you want to test this out.

Hopefully this will be a better option for you :)

Thanks!

Hi All,

Just pondering this same issue and wholeheartedly agree that a confirmation on exit feature needs to be added. It's expected functionality. Mike did you end us raising a feature request for it?

We attempted this using a lightbox which launches from the navigation area on the player window. This, however, causes a side-effect in so much as the lightbox is a 'slide' and we have set our LMS tracking to record completion if all slides are accessed. If the user doesn't access the 'QUIT' function (spawning the lightbox) the course is not regarded as complete.

In addition to the 'confirm on exit' functionality, has anybody raised a feature request to allow specific slides to be exempted when considering LMS tracking?

Cheers,

Hi James. I recently had a similar question, and came up with the below solution. Have a look at my response and sample file in my comment on 4 March (scroll down to the actual response to see the attached file, it isn't shown on the "Verified Answer" part.

I disabled all of the player controls, and added my own. Hope this helps.
