Thought I would share this Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator I created. There are plenty of these calculators online, but I wanted to see if I could build one in Storyline. This would be great for people in healthcare. I got the idea based off of Jeanette's Variable Tutorial with Calculations demo.
Thanks also to all of the Forum folks that answered my question about measurements in metric units. I went with centimeters.
Thanks Jeanette and David. Notice on the results layer I said, "Body Mass Index is:" as opposed to "YOUR Body Mass Index is." Granted most people will be entering their own measurements, but maybe that will soften the blow?
Thanks for sharing! I like your take on the same topic. I'm eager to take a look at your source files and see how you built your demo. I focused on the interaction, whereas you made it more of a complete module. Nice work.
On a side note, I see you are with Yukon. Will you be at DevLearn next week?
I think there would be a way. It wouldn't yield a BMI value but you may be able to get people into categories by using a series of branching questions. Here is a chart that you may find helpful.
Hi Matt! This original file share is quite dated and I'm not sure if they are still subscribed here. Looks like the source file is no longer there either 😞
Hopefully someone in the community will be able to chime in and brainstorm your design idea with you.
Hi Matt, Leslie is right. This is one of the first projects I did in SL a long time ago. I have the source files to share and can update to what you need. Feel free to email.

Nice, David!! Thanks so much for sharing! (I can't believe I'm thanking someone for telling me my BMI, lol.)
I like the way you offered a metric/standard option. You should share your workflow via a Screenr!
Hehe, agreed, JB.
Really great demo, David. And thanks so much for offering the source file for everyone to peek behind the variables curtain
Great show!

Great job David.
Thanks Linda!
David,
I really like your calculator. I had the same idea as well. Here is my version.

Your calculation is a little more streamline than mine. It is always fun to compare different takes on the same topic.

Hello! Is this only something that is possible to do with Storyline, or could Articulate 13/Quizmaker also work?
Cheers
Rebecca
Hi Rebecca! Variables are a functionality of Storyline and not available in Quizmaker.

...it will require a lot of branching. This is one of those you would really need to map out on a big white board.
Thank you everyone for your help! Looks like it is unfortunately not going
to be possible.
Perhaps I need to convince the client that Storyline is a better programme
to be using full stop...
Cheers
Is there an easy way to modify this to make it a Childhood BMI calculator rather than for adults?
Thanks - Matt

Matt, send me an email if you want the source files. It should be very easy to update it.
