I have a 3-question quiz and I made the background frame of my quiz transparent so that I could add it to my e-learning course, and make the PowerPoint master slide show through from behind the quiz. But here's the thing. I must have changed something about the pop-up boxes too. Because now the feedback that learners see after each question is shown on a transparent pop-up box. Is there a way to reverse that?
Hey Babette- Quizmaker09 uses the same colors for the pop-ups as it does for the quiz frame. So if you change one, it automatically changes the other. But here's what I've done before: you can delete the usual feedback text and instead branch your learners to a whole 'nother slide instead (i.e. a blank slide that you've created) so that they never see the pop-up. This works pretty well. Are you familiar with branching? Let me know if you need help with that.
OK, that's a decent option. I think I'll do the branching thing. Thanks for suggesting it and for offering to help! I just found this tutorial so I think I'm all set!
Hello Heather - since you are using the "Submit One Question at a Time" navigation method in Quizmaker '09, your quiz will require the learner to give an answer on every graded question. So this is why that pop-up is appearing after your Word Bank question, telling the learner they need to complete the question before submitting.
If you want to make that question optional (so that the pop-up doesn't appear), you could use a Survey Question instead of a Graded Question. Survey questions aren't scored, and they give you the option of allowing learners to skip the question if they want. There's a survey question type called Which Word, and it looks & behaves exactly like a Word Bank question. To add this kind of question, click Survey Question on the Quizmaker toolbar, and then choose Which Word. When the question editor opens, you can use the "Require" dropdown on the toolbar to choose "User may skip."
Jeanette, do you have any tricks to make the invalid answer box more visible if you DON'T want the user to skip the question? For example, can you adjust the layout of the invalid answer box, or where it pops up on the slide?
I want to use the transparent settings, but it is hard to read the invalid answer box. It would be great if you could pick the colors and transparency independent of the quiz background.

Hi Lori, I'm sorry, unfortunately there's not currently a feature that allows you to change the location of the Invalid Answer pop-up. Depending on your slide design, you might be able to increase the visibility of the pop-up text if you change the font color on it. Is there a color you could use that contrasts with other colors on your slide designs? The text color of the pop-ups is editable via the quiz player color scheme editor... the parameter you'd want to change is called Text > Text 2. The only thing is, that same parameter is also used for other things that you might have chosen to include on your quiz player, such as the quiz title, the question's point value that appears in the upper-right of the quiz player, and the "x points out of N" that appears in the lower-left of the quiz player.
I've been fooling with colors, and have seen some improvement. For example, I changed the frame panel highlight 1 & 2 lines from transparent (which displayed as white) to the color of my background and 0 transparency. However, that only seems to effect/affect the top line. How do you change the color on the bottom line?
I also removed the text label "Invalid Answer" and the invalid answer text.
I changed the OK button to read "Go Back and Answer the Question."
I also found that changing the button colors/transparency helped too.

If Text>Text2 is white, and the button is white also, that must be why it's appearing as invisible at first. Would it mess up the look of things if you used the same color for both Text>Text2 and Text>Text 1?
Regarding that little white line - you know what's weird is, I'm not able to see or replicate that in a test file. It looks to me like it's displaying just the bottom horizontal line from Frame > Inner Border... however, in my test file, if I turn that item on, I'm seeing the entire border (all the way around the popup box, not just the bottom segment). Do you want to submit a case so a support engineer can take a closer look? Hi, I have a similar problem. I already branched the feedback to a blank slide.
However, if the user did not answer the question, it shows the below. I think I have already set it as user can skip the question.
Has anyone encountered this? Please help if you can. Thanks!
