Lightbox pauses slide layer

I'm afraid I can't seem to reproduce the same behavior on my end. Every attempt I try seems to work pretty well with the timeline restarting from a lightbox. 

Not sure why that would happen. Are you able to share the .STORY so I can check it out? Of course, you're welcome to send it to us privately, as well.

I have a related question. I have a Lightbox that opens automatically when a sound file is completed on Layer 2. It pauses Layer 2, which is good. When you close out the Lightbox slide, however, I want it to automatically resume the timeline of Layer 2.

Any suggestions? or do you think I will have to tell the end user to click on the arrow on the seekbar to restart the timeline?

Hi there Toni,

Just a quick thought here, does it need to be a lightbox? Could you use another layer for this, instead? You could even have it appear similar to a lightbox (shadow the background, etc.). That layer could then pause the timeline for Layer 2 and should start the timeline again when the layer is closed.

Can you try that out and let me know how it goes? Or, are you able to share the .STORY file? I'd be happy to take a look and see if I can give any other suggestions.

It looks like Tony has run sinmilar same behavior I found - a lightbox pauses the slide and when closed - does not restart the slide.

I'm interested in knowing what the correct behavior of a lightbox should be.

Lightboxes don't usually function the same way a layer would for pausing and restarting the timeline. I think it's because it's actually a separate slide that's being viewed. You could trigger it to restart the slide, but you may not get it to resume the timeline. That wouldn't really help if you're pausing it and have media on the slide you're returning to, because it would probably start all over again. You could work around that with variables, etc., but it may be less time-consuming to use a new layer, instead.

Thanks for your response (and your redirect). I wanted it to lightbox as it is referenced throughout the course multiple times. If I reference it as a slide, then I have to repeat the slide multiple times in multiple locations which is rather cumbersome as it has 20 triggers on it. Plus I had this Lightbox leading to a second Lightbox before closing out. All of the triggers are associated with an LMS that we had built for us, so that means all 20 triggers have to be connected to the LMS multiple times. I was trying to avoid all the duplication! In addition, NOT duplicating would require them to use the Prev button and I have built in custom buttons so again, it complicates things.

Regardless, thanks for the suggestion. I may play with the variables a bit more to see what I can do. Ejuana, if I come up with a solution, I'll let you know!

I am finding the behaviour of lightbox slides rather erratic. 

I have slides that are set up as "Reset to initial state" that have links to lightbox slides. On some of the slides selecting the lighbox slide pauses the action on the main slide (e.g. if music is playing, the music pauses and restarts again when the lightbox slide is closed). On others it triggers the slide to start again. 

Like Toni, replacing it with a layer is not really an option as this particular slide needs to be accessed at any point in the course. 

Of course, now that I have just posted that, I think I have figured out the reason why it is happening. The slides that are restarting have a "say layer when timeline starts" trigger on them. 

It's still a bit inconsistent behaviour, though. But at least I appear to have worked out why it is happening. 

Thanks for the update on that James.  Please know that you are free to submit a case so that support can look at your issue since you feel that the behavior is not consistent.  

I found that if I had a layer on a slide AND a lightbox slide, the original slide continued to play when the lightbox slide popped up. When I deleted the layer on the original slide, the lightbox slide performed as expected--the original slide paused until I X'd out of the lightbox slide and then resumed where it left off. Is that what it's supposed to do?
