Is there a way to make the content inside of a marker show along the timeline? I want to highlight something, but I don't quite see the point in having the learner have to click the marker to see the objects.
What is it that you are trying to highlight? You can't have a marker automatically open without clicking because that's its purpose - to make it interactive. You may want to consider using something else - like a text box, slightly transparent highlighting object, caption, layer, etc. - that suits your purpose.

You cannot open a market automatically via a trigger now, but there is no reason why this should always be the case. I have on a number of occasions had a need for this. Also in engage it is possible to have a barker automatically open.
One example I had had markers to explain questions Taft on certain occasion they had to read the information. Triggering a market would have been ideal here. I think this is a reasonable request.
But I still don't understand why you can't do that in another way. Isn't the point of an interactive object to interact with it? If it's passive and opens automatically according to the timeline, it's no longer a marker/interactive object.
It was an aesthetic thing in this case. I have a picture, and I wanted to have a closeup image of a piece of the picture appear. I don't mind having the user click it themselves to view it, but it would have looked nicer to have the smooth movement of the marker popping out on its own.
My point, I think is that we could do with some more flexibility and functionality in markers.
There is no reason why we should not be able to remotely trigger a marker, a good example would be to show one open to show users how they work.
Markers defy al lot of what is normal behaviour in storyline, you cannot add image fills, you cannot drag and drop them (this would be great IMHO)
The argument that they are interactive and then should not be triggered doesnt really cut it I am afraid. Yes you can do it another way but why should we, markers have better animation than I can do without using flash or another tool.
In Articulate Engage, the introduction marker (i think that is what it is called) opens automatically so there is already a precedent for this type of behaviour. I would love to have the ability to control whether a marker opens automatically or not. I can think of a ton of uses for this.
Sorry I was having trouble wrapping my brain around this. I've had to do completely interactive modules for the last month, and my brain must be stuck on it...
I could see an introductory course on the skeletal system with markers that would open while the narrator discusses different bones. Makes sense.

Equally though I could see this where a general introduction is made and then you click as needed!
I think the important thing here is for the Dev Team to consider general useability, and also consider whether items are congruent in their working to other items.
Sometimes I do wonder how features are designed, and the split of "technical" vs. "useability" design that it done.
Continuing the conversation re: Markers automatically opening.
I can see some use for example, if you have introduction text that you'd like the user to see before they need to click other markers to get more information. I found Engage interactions do have this function and the users of our eLearning system have got used to that.
I could create a simple text box but this looks different from the markers - and as the introduction text is still linked to the other markers it would be nice to have it with the same look to create uniformity.
Having the ability to open the marker automatically on a trigger would be a great additional feature. I am using markers to provide instruction steps - whilst the majority need to be clicked there are some additional interactions ( hotspots) I have included where I want the marker to open automatically. I can add these as screen shots but not as nice (they don't open/close the same way so obvious it is different).
This training will be ipad accessible so cannot use Engage for this.
Would love to see this functionality/trigger option added if possible.
I just stumbled on the solution to this issue by accident. I had a marker that was opening automatically and I didn't want that. I'm posting the solution here and in a few other identical threads in case anyone still needs it. If the marker is the first object in the focus order for a slide or slide layer, it opens automatically.

If only, it is currently not possible trigger a marker opole you could build your own to approximate this

Hi Ashley,
I'm a big proponent of creating something from scratch if Storyline's built-in functionality doesn't cut it.
Here is a file where I created several different ways to show a zoomed in shot. I got the animated gifs from here: http://ajaxload.info/
I have no idea whether any of these ideas will work for you, but maybe it will inspire some ideas. Hope it helps!

Thank you all for your help and advice
I'm working on getting better at building things myself. I can't tell you how fun that's been transferring projects from Engage to Storyline :|
Oh, hello Zoom Region button that I never noticed before! You do exactly what I wanted

Just my thoughts on the subject

Forum is so handy to get the answers you need.
Thanks

Hi Cath! When you think of those thing, you can submit them as a feature request

Not sure if this was changed in a recent update but it no longer works :(
