Peek videos not aligning with display

Oct 08, 2018

I'm fairly new to Articulate 360 and having trouble with Peek. After etting my frame to capture what I want, I create a video to walk my learners through using certain systems. The video that is available online after doesn't show the same framing. It capture to the left and lower side of the screen than the frame it shows when making the video. When walking through web links and systems, this means that all the clicks I make to show my learners where to go and how to use their systems are mis-aligned and sometimes look like I'm clicking on a different menu option. How to I make Peek capture exactly what I have in my frame?

Hi Alyssa,

Came back to this thread as the same issue is happening again. Still in Windows 10, this time with an external monitor. Every time, I'm framed up correctly but the cursor in the video that Peek captures is not aligned with the screen. I've attached an example. You can see that the frame is right, but the cursor is sitting in the middle of the screen, which doesn't show/teach learners where to click to access the pieces we want them to see. Can you provide any pointers on how to trouble shoot this?

Thank you!

Hi there, Ylva. I'm so sorry you're facing this obstacle!

What Scale and Layout setting are you using? (We recommend using 100%.) Here's how to check/change this setting:

  1. Right-click your desktop and select Display settings.
  2. Click the Display tab in the upper left corner of the window that appears.
  3. Under Scale and layout, select 100% from the drop-down list.

Let us know if you see a difference after recording a screencast in Peek 360 again. We'll explore our next steps from there!

Hi Tara,

Thank you for letting us know! I am sorry that you are hitting this snag with Peek 360 recordings.

Since adjusting the display settings didn't seem to help, could I have you try disconnecting the second monitor to see if that resolves the issue?

Please keep us updated and let us know if you have any questions!

UPDATE: Both of these problems went away when I unplugged my 2nd monitor. Leaving this here though in case the problem can be fixed because it does limit the 'ease' of Peek to some degree. Thanks!

I'm having this same problem when I try to capture only a section of my screen. The attached shows the PPT I was trying to record is like cut into 2 parts and the bottom part is playing at the top of the screen!?

Also when I do full screen, a red line appears in the middle of the recording. Have tried several times, this is in all my recordings the past 2 days (just started using Peek).

Is this still an open ticket? I am having the same problem. I have completed everything suggested, including taking down my external monitor. Peek application is offset from the item being recorded. If I leave it alone, it records the appropriate area, but their is a red line in the recording of where the recording box outline is located. If I manipulate the recording area, it then does not align. I also have the exact same problem when trying to record in Storyline. I have included three screen shots below of what it looks like when I just select the application and do not move the capture area.

Peek 1- Shows capture area selected by application

Peek 2 - Shows what is being recorded

Peek 3 - Shows recording

You can see the red line of what should the capture area vs. what is actually captured. The same offset seems to be true when I move the capture area around.

Hi Katherine,

Thank you for letting us know! I am sorry that you are running into this snag with your Peek recordings.

At the moment, our team is actively reviewing this issue when creating screen recordings with an external monitor. I will be including your notes on our report as we continue to investigate this issue.

In the meantime, a workaround that I hope will help is to:

  • Disconnect your external monitor
  • Adjust your Display Settings and set the Scale and layout to 100%

Please keep us posted and let us know if you have any questions!

Hello Amber and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Thanks for contacting us and sharing what you were experiencing as well.

You mention that the issue happened with and without an external monitor. I'm curious:

  • What is your screen display resolution?
  • Are you experiencing this issue in Peek 360 or Storyline 360? I see this conversation has included both.
Katherine Gerbis

I currently have two external monitors attached. Both Monitors are set to 1680 x 1050 (Recommended) and the scale is set to 100%.

My Laptop settings are 1920 x 1080 (Recommended) with the scale of 100%

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Katherine.

For most customers, when the display is set to 100% for both monitors, this is working as expected.

It sounds like that's not the case for you. Does it align properly when the external monitor is disconnected?

It looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.

I have tried disconnecting both of my external monitors and it still shifts the screen. The original screen shots provided were with nothing connected and the screen setting set as recommended.

I am simply stunned by this. This thread (and others similar) has been going for 2 years or more, and people are consistently facing the same issue. I am too! I have tried uninstalling Peek, rebooting, reinstalling, and nothing's fixed. The same Articulate staff are asking the same questions over and over again.

I am on Win11, I have two screens. The record area box does not align with anything that it actually captures. I want to record on my larger format screen and I don't think I should have to unplug anything or work around when Peek actually tells me I can select ether to record; it just doesn't work properly.

Can we please actually have a fix that is actually a fix?
