Printing Articulate Storyline Survey

Jun 05, 2012

I am new to storyline, only have been using it for a little over a week. I've managed to be able to create a results slide that shows the users score from each quiz but is there a way that i can include the results from the survey as well? Or is there is a way that i can just print the survey slide once they complete it? I haven't been able to find a way to do it yet.

Thanks,

-Matt

Hi Matt, there is a print option on the results slide that will show the question and the student's response. The print option is not enabled by default so to turn it on you have to click the Edit Result Slide option and the click the Options icon.

Unfortunately the printed output does not look very nice but if you have some html skills you can edit the report file to make it look better. The file you want is called report.html and it will be in the story_content folder in the published output.

Note that if you do decide to edit the report file make sure you keep a copy of because the file will be overwritten each time you publish the course.

Hi Christi,

When using the print results button you won't see the information on the slide, but it'll generate a new html page where the results will be visible. It will then be up to the user to either save the page or use the print functions of their browser. You'll want to test this within the intended publish environment to see the information.

Is there a way for users to save their survey results as a file (Excel, PDF, etc) instead of just being able to print them from the browser window? In my company, the reps who will take this training don't have any function to print to PDF, but I want them to be able to send their survey results to their manager. Any workarounds?

Hi Becky and welcome to Heroes!

We don't support exporting or printing to an excel file or database, but if they're able to use the "print results" method that would generate an HTML file - and then you could have them save and send that file itself? There are a few other users who discuss some ideas in this thread.

Hi Ashley, I seem to be having the same issue as Christi. I have added Results pages to my scene which include some text written by me and inserted "references" which is populated by text provided by the learner on previous slides. I need these pages to print but all I get is the headings of 'Question' and 'Answer' on the new html page and no content. What do I need to do to the text on my Results pages to ensure that they show up on the html page ready for printing from the browser?

(I have tested it in the live environment).

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Rosalinda,

Are you using Storyline 2? This thread is a bit older and likely only focused on Storyline 1 originally, but in SL2 you may find that question and answer details are missing from your printed results when the following conditions are true:

  • You completed the quiz and exited the course on the result slide.
  • You resumed the course and printed your quiz results.

This is a known issue. We'll post more information here as it becomes available.

Hi Ashley,

Yes, I am using Storyline 2. I didn't actually include a quiz, I just added results pages as I had inserted data entry text boxes on previous slides. I then used "references" to have that text show up on the results pages hoping that they could then print. Is there another way that my learners can print the content that they type into the slides?

Thanks!

Hi Terri,

You'll see the button while accessing on the iPad, but the "print results" is not supported in both the HTML5 and the mobile player app.

As mentioned earlier in this thread some folks have looked to Javascript to print, and since the iPad uses AirPrint, that's likely what you'd need to utilize as well.

Hi Sadhana,

I haven't seen any examples of how to create a printable result from the iPad and the current print set up isn't supported. You could look at telling users to do a screen shot of the final page when they see the results (home button and power button clicked at the same time on the iPad) and then they could look at options to print that image.
