Hi Elena! This is still something our Engineers are working on for a future release. You can follow our Word of Mouth blog for news and product updates.
Update 4 included some fixes for the image quality when publishing to Word as documented here in the release notes. Do you know what update you're using? You can check by going to the Help tab and clicking on "About Articulate Storyline" and you'll see an image like below:
I'm looking for followup on this conversation. I have Storyline 2 - Update 4 - 1501-717. When I publish to Word and view online - quality is okay, especially in the large vs medium format. However, when printing the image quality if fair at best. I am new to Articulate Storyline and working on a new project with a short deadline. Any immediate suggestions would be appreciated.
I'm unclear how you're publishing to Word and also viewing online? Are you doing two separate publish processes? Images within Word aren't up to the same quality of say a Photoshop for example, and you'll want to look into any scaling you've done to the image within Storyline or once in the Word document. Storyline 1 included a fix for updating the crispness and quality as detailed here, and the same set up included in Storyline 2. If you'd like us to take a look at your .story file and how it publishes to Word, please feel free to share a copy of your .story file here.
I'm sorry for the confusion. By viewing Word online, I really meant to say, viewing the published Word document on my PC monitor. In other words when I open the published Word document, I can read it on my PC screen without any issues. But when I print that same document, the image quality is fair at best.
I did some testing, and in the project I am working on I am using the Insert
Video Recording to capture my cursor/mouse movements within a software
product. When I finish my recording, I use the "Step by Step - insert as slides" and the "View as slides". I would seem that if I record with a smaller screen window for my video that better quality I have when I publish to Word.
I'm working on a project with a tight delivery window and the idea is to use Storyline to produce both to Published CD and to Word.
I just very concerned that what I have captured for publishing to Word is
not at the best quality. Any suggestions would be appreciated. What I would like to have is the image quality that I see on my PC, be the same quality when I print to my laser printer.
First I wanted to let you know that when you reply via email your signature is included here in the forum. You're welcome to edit that and remove the information if you'd like.
You mentioned recording at a smaller size than your story size causes better results? So it sounds like there is initially some scaling within the slide itself - have you also looked at the different sizes available when publishing to Word?
Thanks for the heads up. My preference would be to publish in Word with Screenshot size as Medium, but the quality is just poor for reading. I am publishing with the option of Screenshot as Large. At least with the option of Large, the screenshot image in Word somewhat easy to read.
No offence... But to be honest I am pretty confused why improving the image quality is such a big deal. This thread was started three years ago and nothing happened till now. I'v been to the AS community meeting in Hamburg in March and nearly ALL of the participants agreed that the Export to Word function is pretty useless if trainers and customers are unable to read text in the results.
Are there any reasons for Articulate NOT to improve this? If not, I would suggest to listen to your customers and just roll it out asap.
You can do it, guys.
Best
Alex
PS: Plz don't reply with a link to a feature request. We already had this ;)
The trick here is to balance quality with file size. We've seen customers with .story project files that contain thousands of slides, and if we publish those to Word as high-quality images, we could overwhelm available resources on the machine.
Perhaps a happy medium would be to let the course author choose the quality with some sort of slider, but candidly, this hasn't made the roadmap yet since the vast majority of Storyline content is consumed from a web browser.
We do appreciate hearing from customers that this is important to them, and would welcome others to weigh in here on the importance as well.
Good luck with your project, and have a great weekend!
I personally know a lot of people that really need a working print/PDF exports in the process of creating a training. That would make our lives soooo much easier!!!
I guess I made my point - as others did before. Now it's up to you guys ;)
Cheers!
By the way: Who needs trainings with thousands of slides? :-D
Articulate may want to allow the customer to decide if the file size is too large instead of deciding for them by limiting image quality. If their machine resources aren't sufficient to handle a certain file size publish, they have the option to upgrade their hardware, but I'm having to screenshot 100+ screenshots and replace them in the Word publish file so that they're legible.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Rami. We have shared this information with our team, and we’ll be sure to post any updates here in this discussion! You’ll receive an email notification because you are now subscribed to this post.
You're also welcome to share your ideas and needs as a feature request and those go direct to our Product team.
Hi, just wanted to support those who think this isn't really good enough from Articulate. I'll be looking to upgrade from AS2 to AS3 in the hope that poor image quality has been fixed as a lot of my feedback relates to how people can't make out the Word docs.
I put it through a long time ago as a feature request ages ago and surprised it has been 3 years since it was first raised!
Feels like the helpful staff members are having to apologise for the failings of Articulate in relation to not having a service level agreement for a development like this. I have previously used other eLearning tools where the image quality is fine so not sure what the big deal is.
If it has been fixed only in 360 then that seems unfair to me.
That fix was included in Storyline 360 and Storyline 3. So if you're still having difficulty with the publish to Word output please let me know and I'll want to make sure we can take a look at your .story file and the Word output to do some testing.
I'm still running into this issue. My slide images are showing up in Word with a black distorted background (see image attached)......and the project background is white! This happens no matter which image size I select (med or large). I have way too many slides (most containing several layers) to go through and take individual screenshots.......that would take forever........It would be nice if Storyline had the same printing functionality as Captivate.....just saying. Any possible resolution?

Hi Lars,
Yeah, currently, I agree the Publish to Word images could look a little better. Our QA team is aware of it and working to improve it for a future update. Sorry for the inconvenience
Has there been any update to the quality of images publishing to Word?

Hi Leslie & Peter,
Is there an update on this by any chance?
Thanks!
Hi Judy! Not at this time. Be the first to know about our product updates and releases by following our blog, Twitter and Facebook. Have a great day!
Hi Guys!
Please advise if there has since been a resolution of this issue. We are currently experiencing the same problem (see attached file)

At least make potential buyers aware of the problem before they buy as they are unlikely to test this in advance of making a desicion!

I've just upgraded to AS3 today and am delighted to report that the quality of Word docs is excellent. Really pleased.
Thanks,
Wayne
So happy to hear that Wayne! Let me know if you need anything else.

Hello Jordan and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Thanks for reaching out and sharing that image. That certainly is odd.
This thread is a bit dated, but I'd love to understand what you may be experiencing.
